volume will not respond to the remote

Had PC troubles, so wound up reinstalling SAGE on the server. It has been a couple of years, but remembered most of my setup preferences. All is well with the HD300 clients, but at the server (WIN7-64, 2TB storage, dedicated for media) I have a plasma TV so like to watch there mostly. I find that the volume icon will go up and down with the remote, but the playback volume does not. This used to work just fine. Mute works, so do all the other buttons, and volume "works", just that the sound level doesn't! Is there some preference I forgot but need to set?

If you're using SPDIF output from the PC to the receiver, then the volume control in Sage will have no effect. This is by design, since the point of SPDIF is to pass through the digital audio stream as is to the receiver, which does decoding and volume control.

Nope, sound is through the HDMI. This worked fine in the past; stopped when I reinstalled SAGE7. I would set SAGE to its maximum, then crank up the amp to a bit too loud, then turn it down with the remote with no problem. Now the icon works, but not the sound; it is controlled by the amp only.

Yes, and MUTE works from the remote too. The SAGE volume icon goes up and down in response to the remote, just that the volume itself does not. It is adjusted by the remote to the amp. In the past I set the volume on the amp a bit too high, then turned it down with the remote.

I just trried different audio rendering settings, and the only one that works is the one that says the TV itself.
