version 407 Release notes

Phoenix Beta release 407 release notes
------------
  1. Global UI options
    • Simplified UI Options : This setting is enabled by default, and currently only effects the Detailed Information popup window. It basically simplifies the options that are visible by default. All the options are available, this just hides more of them initially. For instance, you have one option on an imported movie : 'Play'. As more areas of phoenix are modified for this 'minimal' approach, this setting will be tied into them.
    • Resume Without Prompting : bypasses the 'Resume or start from beginnning' prompt when enabled.
  2. New Universal Media Browser : "Inline" This browser replaces a lot of previous UMB variants - Movie Flow and Banner Flow are both being retired in favor of in this one. Old menu items using either of the old ones will still work, they just redirect to the Inline browser. It is called inline because browsing down to any folders happens 'inline'
  3. Grid Flow UMB
    • New options : direction of navigation (Horizontal or Vertical), hide-able information pane, as well as alpha masks that can be displayed on top of the background fanart.
    • Speed improvements.
    • Better illumination of the highlighted item in the grid.
  4. Option in Video OSD called 'Auto Skip Activity Buffer' - this is a timer in milliseconds that disables autoskip functionality for that long after a user interaction. So if your autoskip hits before the commercial starts, you can skip back and it won't try to skip again.
  5. Landing Zone TV : when there are conflicts a 'Resolve Conflicts' item is added to the menu that directs into the default STV's conflict resolution screen.
  6. Parental Controls : Phoenix uses the Parental Lock Code defined in the default UI. Basically the way it works (in Phoenix) is that IF there is Parental Lock Code defined, parental controls are on. If you want to disable them you have to clear the code.
  7. Other stuff.

This is just letting you know what is coming... 407 hasn't been built yet... It'll be a couple days before it gets to the repo.

I noticed a few issues with the new build:

This is only tested on HD200 and Client PC. I haven't gotte to test on my hd300's yet

1 - Simplified view for info (Clear/Set watched) text is cut off and I am seeing Cle..... on the button
2 - The Delete text is removed from the 3rd button the simplified info display
3 - Resume doesn't appear to be working. What I am experiencing is that when i go to resume a show, it still asks me if i want to resume, and when i hit yes it will act like it is resuming, but then start the media from the beginning. This happened 9 out of my 10 tests.

I think that is all i have noticed so far.

Great job though guys i really like the inline its slick.

This latest version includes some great changes!

The parental controls are a welcome addition and I really like the simplification of the delete and playback resume functionality.

Inline is also very slick.

Looking forward to what comes next!

Very nice, I love the new inline browser. However, I can't seem to get poster view to work for it (it just always shows banner view). Any ideas?

There's a setting that toggles it between Poster and Banner. I think it's call "Art Type".

Note that for movies it will use posters regardless of how you have it set.

btl.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

Also noticed that it seems that when viewing an inline list, both "ok/enter" and "right" go to detailed info - can I make one (ok) Play (analogous to Browse in my mind if there are no deeper levels to browse) and the other (right) Detailed View?

Ok, found Art Type in the global options (and UMB options) but it has no effect.

Simple Info Display seems broken:

Simple Info display is broken, sort of. It looks like Inline is using it for folders, which it isn't equipped for. For the time being I'd switch to the 'Detailed' view, as it is now almost as simple by default.

I'm not sure why you don't see the poster art in inline. Try setting the 'Inline' view as the default browser, then goto All Movies - you should see posters there as part of the inline browser.

Also I tweaked the size banners are cached / scaled at, so you might want to run the 'Scale Fanart' after moving to 407 - it'll do the work up front if you use banners for TV shows.

I was messing with this last night and today, and I cannot get my placeshifter client to show posters. Attached are 2 pics, one of the UI from the Sage Server, the other from my placeshifter. Both have "Poster" selected, but the placeshifter keeps doing banners. Suggestions? I'm probably missing something obvious.

I can't think of anything obvious - although if it's a UMB view you had before 407 that was setup to use 'Banner Flow' it ignores the Art Type setting and uses banners.

Oh, well that's probably why I can't see posters then.
