Redner Render Render problems...

SageTV V7.1.9.256
Java 1.6.0_26
Windows XP 5.1
STV File, Sage TV7.xml Version 7.1.9.5
Current Theme, Standard
Hauppauge WinTV-Nova-HD-S2 DVB-S2 Tuner Card
Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600 NTSC QAM ATSC
Video Renderer, EVR
MPEG2 Video Decoder, SageTV
Audio Renderer, Default
MPEG2 Audio Decoder, SageTV
3D Acceleration, Disabled

I also have the following and some others installed.

ffdshow_rev3978_20110825_clsid.exe
GeForce-280.26-desktop-winxp-32bit-english-whql.exe
MatroskaSplitter-03032011.exe
SageTV_V7_1_9Setup.exe

I have searched for days now, trying everything I can find in forums and here but nothing resolves the problem. Every time I try to play Live TV or Internet media or anything else will play.

The server keeps going between audio and video errors of the following type.
In this case, video;

There was a Playback Error in playback.
Details: sage.PlaybackException: ERROR (-4,0x80040217): There was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback.

I have tried various settings and nothing seems to fix this problem. Can anyone give me some leads please before I have to give up on SageTV.

Thanks.

Everytime I have received those type of errors, it indicated that my Sage Client was unable to retrieve the file for playback from my Sage server. For the most part, it was a permission issue where the service running on the server was not allowing the client permission to access it. This assumes that you can access the files from the client either via the File Explorer or other programs such as Media Player.

Modifying the permission of the sage service on the server from the default Local Account allowed interaction.

So can I assume that Live TV is also trying to read from a file since it probably has live tv pause, rewind, etc.

I changed the work directories to d:\sage then allowed read/writes to that along with sub directories. I am still getting the same errors.

So far, I have not tested using a client, all of these tests are on the local machine only.

Any other thoughts of what I should be looking for?

Live TV is actually a recording file on the server that is normally deleted some time after airing unless saved.

Yes, that's what I said above but it is still not working so looking for additional input.

Any other thoughts on what the problem might be? There are so many who seem to have had the same problem.

That error means that the video decoder isn't able to decode the video. Try something other than the built in sage decoder. Error 5xxxxx is when it can't read the filesystem.

As I mentioned when starting the thread, I have done this also. Since I am using Hauppauge cards, would that be related? Maybe something to do with those drivers?

I can record and view video on another device but cannot see any video on this server directly.

That has nothing to do with playback. What other decoders have you tried? When you say you can't view on this server what do you mean?

>That has nothing to do with playback.

If you mean the Hauppauge drivers, I'm just throwing that out there in case. I doubt it also but one never knows.

>What other decoders have you tried?

In Detailed setup, there are a variety of other options in Video/Audio.
Based on various posts I've found, I've tried various combinations.
I have have SageTV for both audio/video settings at the moment but have tried all of the others listed.

Under video, I only have Default or Sage then the 'List all decoders' option.
Since I have ffshow installed for example, I gave that a try on both A/V as well. Always the same error.

>When you say you can't view on this server what do you mean?

The server that sage is installed on.

EVR doesn't work on XP so choose either VMR 9 or VMR. If that doesn't work then install the latest DirectX runtime. Upgrade your video drivers for your video card to the latest. You may as well make sure you have the latest Windows Media Player installed. (This will sometimes upgrade your subsystem with old or missing files.) Reboot the server and try it again.

So the above error saying there is a playback exception isn't a playback error? Plus ffdshow isn't an mpeg 2 decoder. All other formats yes. You can set it as h.264 or vc-1, but not mpeg 2. Also get a filter manager so you can check to see what filters you have. Basically those audio and video errors mean you don't have the filter installed for the file you are trying to play.

If the issues aren't playback related, then what are they related to?

Post a log file so we can take a look.

We are talking about the MPEG2 Video Decoder option right? Just to be sure.
Just tried VMR9, which is my only option for VMR, didn't work.

It is the latest file on nvidia site I believe. It's an old card, it's what I had on hand. I'll upgrade the card once I get things going. I've bought too much hardware not knowing if I would keep something first.
The card is Nvidia GeForce GT 220 running 6.14.12.8026.

Interesting, media player won't fire up. Even after a reboot, it won't come up. Maybe the problem is related. I have also found a problem with file extension associations on the XP box I built for this. Maybe that is related.

Trying to find a tool to fix that.

Just spent hours updating and it still doesn't work.
Media player runs now, just not sure what I'm looking for at this point.

Ok, I went and tested video playback and now find I am able to view live video using Basic only. It's a start.

Current Basic Settings (level 1 of 4): Default Renderer, SageRTV MPEG Video Decoder, 3D Acceleration OFF
Testing shows that using either sagetv or vmr9, either works so does audio.

The picture however, is maybe a 1/4 size of the screen.

Rebooted and it broke it again. Now it's complaining about audio renderer again. This time, the errors are going between 4x and 5x.
I noticed when going back to testing that it is now set to Custom with no other choices.
I used the Reset option and was able to get it back to Basic.

Not sure what I've changed to cause this.

Oh, there is one other thing I've noticed.

The video is only playing when I am using RDP and then only in Basic.
When trying to view video on the local machine, it errors between 4x and 5x.

Anyone have any more thoughts? I'd love to give sagetv a try. I want to move away from linux based mythtv which I've been running for a few years now.
