No audio on some recorings

I am having a strange problem. Recently I have started to have a large number of my recordings from one tuner that don't have any audio. When I go to investigate the problem by watching live TV the problem can be fixed by changing the channel. Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this issue?

The tuner is a Hauppauge 1850 card fed from a SA3200SD cable box via s-video and analog audio via RCA cables to the headphone-like audio inout of the card.

I have had the audio from analog recordings stop working on the HD300 while the digital recordings still functioned. Pulling the power cord fixed it. Not sure if this is the same issue but it might be worth a try.

I have had that issue on my HD300, but I have never gad this issue on an HD200, and I have five of those. But this is a different issue and is a recording problem, not a playback problem.

Have you verified that there is no audio being encoded in the file or just that Sage isn't playing the audio?

I am not sure if it is a software or hardware problem but my recordings do not seem to have audio. If I then watch live TV there is no audio. The problem is often fixed by changing the channel which will cause the audio to resynch but I am pretty sure that it is a problem with the capture card or Sage, rather than my cable box, as I also have my cable box hooked up to a monitor and speakers and sound is still active from the box (I use Y-splitters on the RCA analog cables).

So what is it on your audio card? An input or an output? It can't be both so make sure it truly is an input jack and the OS is configured to use it.

The tuner card is a Hauppauge 1850 - the audio input is the stereo-headphone type of jack. It is not that all audio doesn't work - 80-90% of the time the audio is good. What I suspect is that after being on the same channel for a while the card or Sage lose the audio synch. The reason I say this is that channel changes seem to fix the problem - in other words changing the channel and changing it back will fix the problem. I have tried running a Sched Task every day that changes the channel, and then changes it back (using the uutx program with a USB-UIRT) but I still had a recording last night without audio.

what about setting the "always tune channel" option and seeing if that fixes it.

It is set. One issue with these SA cable boxes is that if you try to retune the channel that you are currently viewing then it is "smart" enough to retune the channel. For example if you are on channel 221 and you enter 2-2-1-Enter on your remote then you will see the remote control presses register on the LED screen but you will notice that the audio and video are never interrupted, not even for a millisecond. Therefore to retune you have to change the channel. I have a task set to change the channel to 5 (which is my TV Guide channel) and then send the "Last Channel" command. This runs at 8:59:15 every day.

Maybe I have to figure out how to preface every channel change with a change to another channel fits. Anyone know how to do this? I think I remember seeing similar issues with people who are on SDV channels that your cable company will have timeout after so many hours.
