What is SageDCT?

Does anyone know what SageDCT is? I stumbled on this HDHR-Prime review, noticed that the screen shots looked really familiar, but searching these forums for SageDCT shows a few mentions in reference (e.g. "I installed SageDCT, now what?"), but nothing more.

If the HDHR-Prime works with my Linux Sage Server, it will be so worth the $250, even if Google turns off the guide data in a year.

It's a "plugin" to allow Sage to use a DCT (Digital Cable Tuner) for CopyFreely content.

Here's the homepage for SageDCT

I've been using it for over a week now and it's very stable. My HDHR Prime is faster to tune (1-2Seconds) than my Colossus, and stable. I ran for a week on my test machine, then switched over to my SageServer, and the WAF didn't change (Good Thing), because she didn't even notice.

Lucky you... I'm working on getting that exact scenario to function as we speak. I have the Sage server running on CentOS 6 feeding a HD200 and a HD100. I have been using a HDHR for several years now and just received my HDHR Prime.

So far I have gotten it paired and the SiliconDust software successfully records encrypted content. Out of the box, Sage will record QAM with the Prime (configured just like the original HDHR). Unfortunately, a protocol translation needs to occur for the encrypted content to function in Sage. I think that this is where SageDCT comes in. From what I understand, it essentially acts like a network encoder to Sage.

Once I get things configured properly, I'll post a quick HOWTO to get you started.

Does this mean you don't need the cablecard installed in order to copy content that isn't available via QAM? I've heard that getting the cablecard installed can be a headache with Comcast.

Update: Never mind. SageDCT is needed in order to implement the CableCard function. If I'm just going to use it for the QAM channels I don't need to use SageDCT, right? I think I've got it now.

ugh. I really don't want to have to go buy Windows just so I can install SageDCT.

I got my CableCARD installed into my HDHR Prime and can connect via the hdhomerun_config_gui and it sees all of the channels and I can even watch the channels on my Linux box with VLC (Food, USA, etc non clearQAM).

But SageTV just can't see the other channels in the scan. Is there a way I can force it? Why can the hdhr gui and VLC see the channels (all from Linux), but Sage cannot?

Can SageDCT run under wine?

DevNull, any luck getting things going?
