Delete show with remote

There does not appear to be a way to delete a show from the remote.

The only methods I have found are to delete a show from the stop dialog or using the delta key on the keyboard (no delete from remote)

Is there a way to do this?

"The Remote"... which remote are you referring to?

If it is a remote from HD200 or HD300 there is a delete button in the bottom section.

Referring to a standard MCE remote (the most commonly used). In my case, a logitech Harmony programmed to behave like an MCE remote.

Take a look under advanced options in the detailed info popup. We didn't want to make deleting files too easy.

Thanks for the pointer...

Would be great if you could be put it directly under 'detailed info' --deleting is actually convenient

Agreed - I'm finding I'm clicking quite a few more remote buttons to delete shows with the plugin installed than when it wasn't. Maybe an option to have the menu's "advanced" options show by default instead of having to go in and open them each time?

The 'delete' functionality needs to be promoted to a top level function - it is used all the time.

In addition - there should be an option to turn off the 'reason' for deleting...

I'll take a look at it.

BTW, you can delete all or just delete items marked watched from the group level detailed info menu. The button is labeled "Group Delete Options" and is also located under Advanced Options (for now).

Please do.

SageMC navigation was very nice

The WAF on Phoenix is getting negative ratings... far too many clicks to accomplish routine goals (unlike SageMC).

Also, a major gap is simple search - the most important use case being the lack of ability to find shows to add to favorites.

Another critical item, like SageMC, is the ability to be brought back to the same location when you navigate away from a screen and back.

If you could replicate these it would be awesome.

routine for some is not routine for all. I don't think anyone in my household deletes anything manually.

And I wouldn't say that MCE remotes are the most commonly used with sage. I'd wager there are far more IRMan or USB-UIRT's used with whatever remote was laying around, many of which, people have programmed with a delete key.

I think we'll end up 'promoting' delete out of advanced, but hiding it completely by default. If you want to be able to delete stuff from the Phoenix you will need to 'enable' the delete functionality. Some people will want it enabled, some will never miss it.

The main issue I have with this kind of thing is that the complexity of configuring and living with Phoenix grows every time we add a setting that the user can tweak - a UI that has 100s of 'nerd knobs' isn't what we are going for here, nor one that works just like any other. If you like the way <insert Media Center UI Flavor here> works then go use it instead of Phoenix.

First off - let me re-iterate that you have done a tremendous job with Phoenix and it is very appreciated!

With that said, please accept/take feedback on usability from end-users (the goal is to make Phoenix even better).

The idea of good usability is to reduce complexity and the number of 'options' necessary to achieve the most common tasks / use-cases (not add lots of knobs)

Phoenix has in fact made it more difficult to accomplish some routine tasks by making it necessary to select multiple levels of options and respond to multiple levels of dialogs before a task can be achieved. (my comparison with SageMC is that MeInMaui did a good job of this - not that it is better or worse than Phoenix)

Most routine navigation tasks should be able to be accomplished in 1-2 clicks, using only the arrows and the select button. No other special keys should be required.

An example of a routine navigation task (use-case): watch a recorded tv show
The desired path would be to 'select' recorded tv shows, then 'select' the show folder, then select the show (playback would then begin immediately).
Options would be under right-click or right-arrow driven pop-up dialog.

An example of a context specific task (use-case): stop the show and save or delete it
The desired path would be to press the 'stop' button and select either 'save' or 'delete' from a pop-up dialog.

Alternate navigation use-case: find and delete a show (common as shows are often saved for viewing by multiple family members... or if a show has accidentally been recorded...)
The desire path would be to 'select' recorded tv shows, then 'select' the show folder, then use the up/down arrows to highlight the show, then right-click or right-arrow to launch a pop-dialog and select 'delete'.

If there is a debate on what is a 'common' use case/scenario - then a simple poll will give good data...

I agree with Fuzzy. I would guess most users have remotes with a delete button programmed. I don't believe the MCE remote is by any means the most popular. Speaking as a user, I really like it the way it is and would rather have effort put into allowing plugins like the callerID plugin.

just go into the learn remote command dialog, go to delete, and learn it as one of your remote keys (I choose the red button on my hauppauge remote).

you can hit it while watching a show and it brings up the delete dialog as if you hit the keyboard command.

ditto on that. I do the same. I'm setup with a USBUIRT and an old generic Comcast remote that I got with a STB about three years ago. Within Sage I tell it i'm using the USBUIRT and I think that's about it. Delete works from the screen where I select a show to watch.

I would like a "mass delete". Say I've watched all billion episodes of Seinfeld but never deleted them... then the day comes when I don't care. I'd like to highlight the primary group for the show then hit DEL and have all 180 episodes removed. I believe this worked a while back, version 6 maybe, but I haven't seen this functionality for some time.

I also don't care about the reason why I am deleting. Just delete, Sage, don't ask me why. Like I tell my kids, "Because I said so, that's why!"

Pretty sure that's till there in the default stv for v7 as well. Just have to pull up the info for the group, and choose delete all from the popup.

Thanks for the info. But not when running Phoenix, right? Just the default STV?

I sure wish that the programmed delete button on remote worked for group delete, but it doesn't. I have that button on my remote programmed. It works in the default stv, it works in Diamond, it used to work SageMC. It does not work with Phoenix. I can delete each show individually, but not as a group. When I need to clean up the recording directory, I typically have to switch out of phoenix.

The delete functionality is an issue for several of us, and it effects basic operations. Even so, the parts of phoenix that do work are so awesome, I keep using it!
