HD300 some programs/recordings no sound and stuttering video

This was a working system. I havent done anything recent to the system but this extender isnt used often so i cant be sure whe the problem started.

Playing some DVDs from the NAS or some live TV (but not all channels/programs) results in no audio and the video that seems to run for about 1 sec then pause. this stuttering video continues with the stop go pattern.

One program that demonstrates this as an example is MPEG2-TS[H.264 16:9 1080i@29.97fps AAC@48khz Stereo] (taken from the recording detail screen)

I checked the Java heap and its no-where near the max 500 used 1038 max. The HD is on a wired network

Any ideas where in need to look would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

These are tough to trouble shoot. What I usually do is delete the client.properties file and the backup .properties for that extender and just unplug and bring it up. A quick reconfigure and those issues usually disappear.

Are these Colossus recordings? I see it happen with those occasionally. When it happens for me, the same TS file plays back from the server but not from an extender. Converting to High Quality MPEG allows it to be played by the extender, though.

It's the AAC audio format that the extender cannot playback. I have recorded TRON 4 times on my Colossus one of those was AC3 and plays back on my HD200. None of the AAC recordings (the other 3) will playback on the HD200. They do playback on the server. I am keeping one of the AAC recordings because the AC3 recording from the Colossus flickers periodically like a slide show on both the PC and the HD200. The AAC playsback perfectly on the PC. Wasn't able to convert the AAC to MKV when I tried will have to try MPEG now. Still recording all of the HD versions of TRON hoping I can get an AC3 version that records correctly. Haven't looked at the HD-PVR recordings of TRON on my other server yet.

I had a similar problem but not quite the same. What I had to do was unplug the HD300 and let it sit for a minute then plug it back in. After that playback was good again.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes i had come to the same conclusion after more troubleshooting. Colossus AAC recordings are the ones that give me the stop/go video and no sound. I thought the HD300 was supposed to support this format. As i need to be able to watch live TV transcoding isnt really an option. Does anyone have another suggestion?

also a different problem but still with the HD300. For some reason i can no longer playback any of my ripped DVDs. The PC client doesnt have any problem and Mpeg files on the same storage as the DVDs play fine. There is no error message but after pressing Play nothing happens (no video playback window opens or anything). I am convinced this was working when i started this thread but as of now none of the DVDs (in VIDEO_TS folders ) will play. I tried reloading the firmware and a factory reset with no joy.

Any trouble shooting tips appreciated

It is possible it would if the container was an MP4 and not a TS.

Some questions. Are the ripped DVDs on the server or a separate PC from the server? Do you use SageTV Service mode? If so does the service login as a specific user or as "Local System" account?

The ripped DVDs are on a NAS Sae is in service mode and it logs in with a real account.

A client on running on the same PC as the server has no problems with playing anything from the NAS box

Don't think so. But you might be able to use something like handbreak to convert the container without re-encoding the file. SageTVs converter will re-encode the file without custom settings. So not something for live TV probably.

Make sure you are able to access with the client using the same user name as what Service mode is currently setup as. Other than that I haven't got an idea. I have a specific user for Service mode that is not used to login anywhere so I always have to add that user to each machine that I need to give Service mode access to.

I had issues with sound on a recorded show not wanting to play. If I back out and play another prerecorded show for a few seconds it generally has sound and then I can go back to the original show and the audio is fine. Sometimes I have to do it to two shows and the go back with no additional problems.
