Update - Resolved - I accidentally discovered today that the problem had to do with the partitions. I was defaulting the backup drives to 64KB allocation size which is what I have my Sage hard drives formatted to in the bay unit. If I choose the default allocation NTFS file size then the drive can easily be seen in either the USB external bay or SATA bay. But, when I set the allocation size to 64kb then my backup drive only works in either the SATA or USB bay. I'm not sure if it's a problem in my version of Windows 7 or some other issue. But, at least I know to format the backup drives to the default size. It's probably better at the default allocation unit anyways since I'll get better utilization of space and performance is not an issue so much as reliability and versatility on a backup drive. The Sage drives can stay at the recommended 64KB allocation units.
