CPU usage with ffdshow

My hardware:

Athlon XP 2200+ at stock clock speed
Shuttle MN31N nForce2 motherboard
Onboard GeForce4 MX 440 graphics via VGA to
XGA monitor
eHome Wonder tuner card

Software:

Sage
nvDVD decoders
ffdshow

I'm trying to use ffdshow to take advantage of my monitor's resolution and make my tv picture sharper. It definitely runs -- I can get the ffdshow osd to display. My problem is that when I use ffdshow to resize my output to 1024x768, CPU usage immediately goes to 100%, I get terrible stutter, and menu delay is unacceptable. This is choosing a fast, low quality algorithm for resizing in ffdshow and no other filters.

Am I going to be able to use ffdshow with this CPU, or is the XP 2200+ too weak to achieve what I'm trying to do? Are there settings within Sage that will reduce CPU usage and allow me to pull this off?

That resize is pretty tough - try a smaller resolution. It also seems to depend on your ffdshow version. It seems the newer version of ffdshow have a harder time with Resize than the older ones do.
