Having one problem with Splashtop and SageTV. Autoskip for commercials isn't working.
When playback gets to a commercial block on the timeline, it just continues on playing. I can manually skip over it, but it won't do it automatically. The strange thing is that if I use the exact same client directly (without Splashtop), autoskip works fine. Any ideas? |

Did you upgrade to the latest comskip play plugin?

Yep, I tried that and it didn't make any difference. Again, this is only using Splashtop. If I launch the SageTV client on the same system without Splashtop, it works fine.

The documentation at Splash is not clear. Installed on my HTC Inspire 4G Android phone, and on a WIN7-64 PC. If I connect to my LAN via wifi, it plays just great; fast, no hesitation, good picture quality, sound is right on.
However cannot get access if not via LAN. Instructions mention via Google, so I did set input my Google stuff, but no go. Went to Starbucks and connected to wifi there just to try a wifi not part of my LAN; no dice. Using Wifi Hot Spot on the phone didn't do anything either. The site seems to indicate that external iPad or iPhone to PC works, but that Android may still be in the future. Anyone got Android off premises working? Hope to make work because it seems to work very, very well. Might use instead of LinkedIn for other purposes. Duh; Logmein, not LinkedIn. |

No need for placeshifter; get Splashtop
I forget where I saw it (probably Android Central), but came across Splashtop and it is fabulous. Download a free streamer to any PC, including your media server. Then get the Android app on your phone, or there are versions for iPad, iTouch, iPhone; any of them are $5. Inside the house (common LAN) there is nothing to change router-wise, just setup PW between the streamer and the device. But the really trick part is that by setting up port forwarding on your router, you can access the PC externally. So today I walked to the post office and watched live TV on my Android by selecting it on the SAGE software on my server. Video stutters just a bit, but sound is perfect and video certainly acceptable. Set it up on my wife's iPad; took about one minute. So travel with an iPad, iPhone, etc, and access the wifi in the hotel, which is usually free, and you can watch everything you have on SAGE. I have also run Excel on my desktop PC from Starbucks.
