I'd be more than willing to host a forum if this one gets shut down pm me a few details an I'll look into srttin one up as I have 3 domains an I only use 1. I need to know what format of forum everyone wants and how many users would be willing to moderate for it. No hurry though as it doesnt need to go up live until the end of the year.

Smile Mythtv & extenders? & Other Options

[QUOTE=SHS;502765]The only other option are
MythTV
Pro: Cool UI
Cons: No support for Hauppauge Colossus, and can be real a pain to work with becuase it Linux, dosen't have any ture Extenders Support

First I seen this video on youtube, while I haven't done much with linux, it does remain an option especially when you consider both the OS (Linux) and the PVR software (Mythtv) are free. What is a ture extender? or was this just a typo for true extender? like I said I haven't done it, but according to this video, it does seem to support this extender which is the extender I have.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwcB88yFeZ0

I researched the PVR software years ago, and settled on SageTV as they gave you more for your buck compared to BeyondTV, and I left GBPVR when Zap2it quit providing free Guide information.
I love Sage, I just wish i'd bought more extender licenses

I am not sure what I will do in one years time, if Google does turn off the guide info. We could continue to use SageTV and our extenders with another source of Guide info (possibly a scraper)

or Mythtv does look like a possible option (again with a scraper)

I actually love all of the options of WMC, but hate it's lack of support for extenders. I don't have the money or the desire to put Xbox360's in every room.

As for those who are looking for a whole home solution you might consider BOCS http://www.bocsco.com/
To my knowledge this will Probably not work on the same cable as Digital cable, but if more cables are run you could have one or more sources being able to be controled and viewed from any tv in the house.

That was a typo on the part of SHS. he meant TRUE Extender support.

I am not aware of any legitimate extenders for Myth TV.

If by "legitimate" you mean functional, small, quiet and relatively cheap, Korny mentioned he built some good extenders for his Myth system here.

Well again I did post the video, I don't know exactly how they did it in the Video, but they are using the Hauppauge MediaMVP and MythTV together.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwcB88yFeZ0

Here's a page with setup info and screenshots of the MediaMVP and Mythbuntu (MythTV on Ubuntu OS)
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/My...tend#Hauppauge MediaMVP as a Mythbuntu Frontend

according to this page the MediaMVP can access media from Mythtv

This is done with the MediaMVP just like it was done on SageTV and GB-PVR. An alternate flash is done to the device. But the MediaMVP only supports mpeg2 so it will not handle any h.264 or .ts stream. Also the MediaMVP was created before any HD broadcasting was ever really done. To play files other than mpeg2 in a Myth TV system you need to install VLC on another PC and use that. Not the best way to go about it.

I don't consider the MediaMVP a viable alternative, especially if you are used to a Sigma based extender. The video quality is horrible. I'd rather use a Windows client PC.

YMMV

I agree. Don't even think about using the Media MVP. The picture and sound quality is lousy compared to the HD extenders. If it isn't possible to have some form of HD extender equal to the SageTV HD-200 or HD-300, then a the client will have to be on a PC. This is unfortunate, since the PC will cost more, draw more power, is larger in size, and will make noise unless you put extra money into it to make is silent or near silent.

My hope is that in a year's time, we will know how Google plans to incorporate the SageTV technology (or which pieces they keep and integrate) and that there will be a solution that works for me.

Honestly, I won't mind buying a googletv if it would work with the HDHR-Prime boxes and also provide the consolidated view into my network's contents.

Smile MediaMVP and

I use the MediaMVP daily, The sound is fine, the picture is fine.
No, It's not HD, but then I don't have an HDTV anyway.

I am sure I am in the minority, but I am equally sure there are others using
the MediaMVP now. and yes you do have to purchase a license
(something you can't do now since Google closed the Sagetv store)
The combined prices of SageTV and the extender license was still better and did more than BeyondTV.

However I purchased 1 license and have been using it for years with Sagetv
Previously I used the MediaMVP with it's own software, then others including ChrisTV and BeyondTV. I stayed with GBPVR until Zap2it quit providing Free Program guide information.
The SageTV program did more than BeyondTV did when I bought it, and I went with it.

However SageTV in it's current form is unclear, and this is a discussion of Alternatives and MythTV is one, However to state that there is no extender support isn't quite true, I've posted no less than 3 links proving there is.
The problem is anyone currently using a MediaMVP with Sage might have considered MythTV, but when they read that there is no extender support
They may take that at face value as Truth, only it isn't.
I don't know how many other extenders work with Mythtv, and I don't care if it's "Legitimate" or not, All I care about is if it works. The Video Seems to show it works fine.

Sorry - I'm not trying to spam the Sage forums with "you should be using NextPVR" posts, but here is a video that shows NextPVR in use on a Sigma based PopcornHour A-100 extender, captured with a Hauppauge Colossus.

Smile No HD extenders supported

This was the part that I was hoping would be clarified in the original post
No support for Mythtv and HD extenders might be a correct statement
the way it's worded the implication is extenders don't work with Mythtv. and this is false.

again, i may be in the minority, but I am positive not everyone has HDTV, I don't plan on getting one until a broken TV causes me to.
and I am fine with SD mpeg2.
I had assumed this was a general discussion on alternatives to SageTV and Wasn't restricted only to HD users.
