Why isn't the media center and client teated as different products?

I have valid licences for 2 copies of media center V6 one of which was upgraded to version 7 which I run on my primary server. I now have a tablet which I want to run media center V6 on, just to be able to play local files. But I also want to run the V7 client which I also have a valid license for. I had the media center v6 installed and running. Then when I installed the V7 client it removed the media center v6. I would expect issues if I tried to use a V7 client to connect to a v6 media center, but I don't. I want to my tablet to use media center V6 to view local files and v7 client to view the primary server files. Why can't these programs work on same system?

They can. Just choose a different install folder during setup.

Installed media center 6 in a directory named ../SageTV/v6. Then installed v7 client in directory named ../SageTV/v7. The ../SageTV/v6 directory was then removed as was the media center v6. I then decided ro reinstall media center v6 since it should not know about v7. That appeared to work but I am not sure. The client v7 is still there but does not appear to be working properly. It goes away while I am trying to configure the playback settings. I suspect I will end up just installing the one I want to use at the time I need it.
