Online Videos -- full download vs. immediate playback?

On Sage 6.6 I would nightly watch the NBC Nightly News online video.

Hit or miss about 50% of the time the video would buffer for a few seconds and then start playing immediately, while the other 50% of the time the entire clip had to download before starting playing (a good 5-10 minutes wait).

On S7 through the HD300, it always needs to fully download before playing.

Can anyone explain the inconsistency and/or how to set, if possible, these online video sources to start playing after a certain amount of buffer is full, vs. having to wait for the whole thing to download?

Thanks!

Some online video just can't be played progressively (as it downloads) and must be downloaded completely. It's not up to Sage, it comes down to the content provider.

I guess I understand that, it just seems weird that it would happen randomly starting right away vs. having to fully download on at least NBC and ABC nightly news links. Seems their people who put these videos up change the mode on a whim.
