Ceton - HDHR w/cablecard and Sage
I really do not want to dump Sage in favor of Windows Media Center, and have to purchse $300 extenders for two rooms to be able to utilize the Ceton card, but at the same time, I want to be able to watch/record all the channels I am paying for.
I understand the Ceton/Sage combo will not work with copy protect flagged channels. I do not know if the HDHR unit will or not. I dont know if WMC will allow using my DVB satellite tuner in addition to the HDHR and the Ceton all at once. I would prefer sticking with Sage. Are there any plans by Sage to allow use of this card directly with their software/hardware in the same mannor as WMC i.e. DRM control or whatever is preventing it from working now? If it can work in Windows, I see no reason it cannot work in Sage, unless there is some monetary outlay needed to license the DRM. I do not understand all this DRM stuff, other than it prevents legit users from setting up a system that works. I currently have two Tivo HD units with m cards, and a stand-alone comcast HD cablebox hooked to a HDPVR for sage. Is this going to be do-able in the forseeable future? I am trying to get away from the $7.50 per cablecard per month charge , plus $7.50 for the cable box ($22.50 per month additional expense), and accomplish the same exact thing with Sage + Ceton + DVB tuner +HDHR2 ATSC. I really dont want to dump all my Sage investment and start over with WMC. Any ideas?

Sage has never said one way or the other on whether they are intending to implement DRM for cablecard support. If I had to guess, I'd say no. If you want to be able to use all your channels in sage, it's gonna have to be via the HD-PVR that you already have. (just get a couple more of those guys, and ditch the Tivo crap all together).

Sage does not talk about future plans at all so even if they were working on support for cablecard devices they would not say anything until the day they release an actual product.
If speculation is OK then I would bet on them not supporting cablecard devices because of the DRM required and the supposed costs of acquiring the licenses to support the DRM. S |

Ok, guess that rules out my plans. I guess I can call Xfinity and ask them if they plan to add any copy protection. I know from using the Tivo's, that most movies are copy protected, but so far, that is all.
Thanks for your quick reply.
