Category Filter: Why cant I see 'Children' ?

Hi,
Thanks for Diamond.
Just starting to really customize the screens now, and I'm having a small problem with the categories.

My recordings have epg data associated for TV. All kids stuff is recorded under the category of 'Children'.
But I don't see this option on the list to filter the recordings.

I've tried adding 'Children' as a user category in the main sage ui, but I can't change the categories from the Diamond list.

Is there anywhere to add/change these so that they pick up the categories from the epg?

Thanks
Chris

I think this is what you are looking for,

1. In any of the TV recording views bring up the options panel by hitting esc or option on the remote.
2. Go to the "Filtering" options and select.
3. At the bottom of the pop up panel you will see "Categories Filtered In: None", select it.
4. Select the Categories or User Categories you want to filter by.

If this isnt what you are looking for please clarify what you are trying to do.

Jeremy

Hi Jorton,
Yes. That is exactly what I want,
except I don't have the Category 'Children' in the list to select.

Where is that list generated from? It doesn't match my epg categories nor does it match my sage setup user categories.

Thanks
Chris

Your probably using 7.15 or earlier version of sage tv as I am using sage tv 7.17 and I see children on the list of choices.

I love the extra choices to choose from in 7.17 as I got to check it out more.

Category "Children" should be there for him though, pre 7.1.7 I have always had it listed as a filter choice.

I am running 7.1.5, will upgrade to 7.1.7 in case that's it, but my categories don't look a thing like yours (see attachment)

How are they determined?

Thanks

Redman,
That is how my categories looked like as well until I upgraded to the newest Beta.

In fact I never saw all those choices in Jorton's screenshot until I had updated to 7.1.7 and that is why I suggested you upgrade.

Most of the choices were there for me prior to 7.1.7, but I agree that it looks like there are more of them showing now.

I had a quick look in the manual and didn't see anything that said where the list is compiled from for TV (i.e. from recordings themselves, the epg or from a listing built in Sage itself, etc..)

I have always had "children" as an option in the listing as I used to use it to create a "Kids" view before I started using my custom user category "Kids" that was assigned to my kid's Favorites.

Hopefully someone will chime in and let us know the source of the TV categories so we can determine why Redman is missing some items.

J

It comes, I believe, from an API call. Odds are, the difference is the EPG used. RedMan is listed as being in Singapore, so I'm pretty sure he isn't using Zap2It, so he may very well have a different list of categories.

EDIT: Yes, it is obtained from the GetAllCategories() API call, which Returns 'all of the names of categories that are in the database'.

Yes, I use StephaneM's epg import tool that imports in the epgdata that I create.
The categories are created ok, and appear in the program guide, the Diamond show view correctly identifies and highlights the categories (i.e. I have Children highlighted in Red).

So it appears that the Listing of the categories here (using the GetAllCategories API call) isn't getting all the categories from the epgdata.

Thanks.
Chris

I would bet money you would see the same thing in the default sagetv. If so you may want to bug it and see what they say.

I've Heard back from Sage.
I have run the API call from studio
java_util_Arrays_asList(GetAllCategories("T"))

This returns a list of the categories seen by Sage (which does include all my categories including children - see attached screenshot)

I also tried running with "V" which also returns all the same categories.

So, I'm back to something in the way I have Diamond that its not seeing the full GetAllCategories list.

Anything else I can check?

Thanks
Chris

Please uninstall or disable the Diamond STVi via the plugin repository UI Mod section and then verify that the correct categories are showing in the recording filters with only the default Sagetv STV only and the "Standard" theme.

If you have tried this already please disregard.

I just want to verify that the categories are correct in the default Sagetv setup to rule out a Diamond issue.

Thanks,

Jeremy

Thumbs up

Hi Jorton,
I did as you suggested and did see the categories in the listing.
I have reinstalled diamond, and figured out my problem.

I was trying to create a view that used both TV recordings and imported Media / Shows into a single view.

By manipulating the metadata in BMT, I am able to merge all imported media into recordings, and get the correct categories to show.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers
Chris
