SageTV service won't start. SageTV.exe starts fine

I have sagetv 7 installed on my win 7 64 bit machine and everything was running fine.

I installed a new external disk, and moved my video files to the new disk, and now the service will not start up. I had the movie libraries set up with UNC paths (\\server\movies) and after I moved the files, I deleted the old share, and added the new with the same name.

SageTV.exe starts up just fine.

I am not prompted that a trial has expired when I start the sagetv.exe.

the error I am getting is that "the service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"

I have tried changing the user the service runs under to a domain admin, and no luck there.

I cannot see any log files that might give me a clue.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Nevermind. I found the problem. The account I was logged in as was a local Admin on the box, but NOT the domain, and I was not logged into the domain, so the local system account had no domain authority and that is why the service failed to start.

Thumbs up Still Good Information

Hi rm1759.

You had a problem, it turned out to be one of those "doh!" moments everyone has, you fixed it and posted the solution.

The sagetv service would see this if it were trying to start using an account which did not have sufficient rights to allow starting services.

This could also happen if the SageTV were setup using a "user install" and the account that installed it was downgraded to have less rights. Manually starting the service would require appropriate service rights or require a reboot.

Using either the a local admin or local system account might make the administration easier for you, but I am glad you found a solution.

Thank you for posting. I am sure someone else might run across a similar situation and your post could definitely help point them in the right direction.
