Tearing problems
I was using the defaults with no problems for video and audio. Then I download the Nimo codec pack to play back some other video files and tried the Intervideo registry hack to speed up performance. Now, I believe I reset the registry changes and changed everything back to "default", I get tearing, sometimes pretty bad. Sometimes it is just at the top of the screen, but sometimes it is over the whole screen and Sage is running very slow.
Is something messed up that I can change back? I will try reinstalling the Hauppaufe stuff following the instructions on their site. I hope this isn't going to involve a Windows reinstall, but in order to clear everything up, it may take that. Thanks

If you had no tearing before the enabled DXVA in the Hauppauge Intervideo decoder try undoing that (registry edits).

I have set the two registry tweaks back to 0. I tried watching TV with the Hauppauge TV2000 software, and I get the same tearing. I have reinstalled the Hauppauge stuff and uninstalled the Nimo and other codecs.

Check your video drivers and make sure you have VSync enabled. Did you disable UsePresentationInterval in the registry for Sage?
What video card do you have? Tearing or skipping is normal with slower cards. I just have to get a faster card cause my 9600 could not do VMR9. If you disable 3D Acceleration in Sage do you still get tearing? |

try using elecard with that 9600, mlbdude
I am doing dscaler deinterlacing, tomsmocomp plugin, odd feild first, DXVA mode D, with either VMR 9 or overlay |

Yeah without DXVA I was able to avoid tearing with most decoders I think (Elecard does not support it at all). I did no like that limitation though .
You run a 9600XT though (compared to my normal 9600), I would not think you would get tearing. |

hey I seem to have problem though with elecard with watching cartoons
I tried watching the simpsons and there are noticable interlacing issues have you had any better luck I have tried many plugins and etc... but elecard does not do good with antimation everything either has jagged edges or looks like it uses a weave deinterlacing I can see with normal live action shows but it is not as noticeable I thought elecard maybe have been a good solution since the playback is so smooth but the interlacing issue is less than desirable what is your currect setup? and have you had any luck with elecard? |

You have Double Refresh on? I always needed that to get the best picture from Elecard. Sounds like you are having DScaler issues. Have you tried different ones to see if any are better for you than TomsMoComp?
Where do you watch your shows? TomsMoComp is nice for TV but cruddy for PC from what I have seen. |

I have tried turning double refresh on and playback slows way down
with overlay and VMR9 it use to work well with older versions I usually watch on the server on the pc monitor on client it depends, I will use VMR9 with nvidia decoder with it though I get the interlacing though even with dscaler deinterlacer disabled well actually it seems worse without dscaler deinterlacer have any ideas of what plug in to use? I do like it but end up going back to either ATI cyberlink or cyberlink cause of problems(they seem to play back recorded TV the best without problems) |

Just general advice for anyone who reads this. NEVER install one of those codec packs available on the internet. Always find out which codec you need for the new media and just install it. Many of the Video issues(not just with Sage) come from these packs installing incompatible codecs with each other. Or codecs not meant for your system. Worse yet they then mess with the merit settings for existing codecs. Don't do it.
OK Rant over sorry. Best of luck with your issue. I hope you get it fixed. Try to make an Image of your drive after you get windows and the basisc installed. That way you can just pop back in time easily, in the future.

OK, so now I am totally confused. Last night I did a clean install of XP Home, installed all the critical Windows patches, installed Norton Anti-Virus, and installed the nVida driver for my GeForce4 MX440 (it is running DirectX8.1 at the mo). I then installed the PVR250 ( I never actually took this out of the computer) using PVR_INF files: pvr250_18_inf.zip, and then installed the PVR250_18_22037.exe driver updater per the website.
I open up WinTV2000 application and the picture is awful. It varies by channel a little, but the picture is getting ripped all over the place (I hope I am using the correct terms "ripping" and "tearing" - they certainly seem the correct description. The picture is basically the same as before the reinstall of Windows. I haven't installed Sage, I have installed any other video codecs - whats the deal? Is my PVR250 card going down the tubes? We've had quite a few thunderstorms this past week, could part of the card be frazzled? Can I run a diagnostics on the card? I have included a screenshot of my driver details page aswell. Any suggestions/help appreciated. Thanks

Total speculation.
With that kind of picture and the fact that it is also showing up in WinTV2000 on a clean install... I'd definitely check all cable(physical wiring) connections. If you can "borrow" another card to test your setup that would be a good idea. Since if it isn't an issue with the signal getting messed up in the cables then I'd wonder about your card(just like you did several posts up).
The only other thing I can think off is that the frequency tuning is slightly off, but since WinTV2000 tunes in it's own frequencies I'd strongly suspect the card or cable connection. If I've misread the thread about WinTV2000(giving the same results) and you suspect the tuning is off, you may want to download the trial of SageRecorder. Since SageRecorder self tunes like WinTV but still shares much arcitechure with SageTV. Personally I suspect, if it isn't a signal issue, with your cable provider... That it's either the wiring going to the card or the card's tuner is dying. /justme |
