How to show subtitle in MKV files?

I have SageTV setup to use DirectShow (ffdshow). This seem to be working fine.
I have my MKV files with one or more subtitle in it.

However Sage does not show me the subtitle selection in the menu.

How do I convince SageTV to work with subtitles in MKV files.

Thanks

When you say menu, I assume you are referring to when you are playing the mkv then hit the options button that there is no choice for subtitles?

I have (in the past) had to extract the subtitle from the mkv.

Is the sage splitter capable of extracting subtitles from MKVs? You may try disabling the sage splitter and see if that makes a difference.

Yes, I can't see the subtitle option in the options menu.
By setting EnableSageTVStreamDemux=0 on my laptop it started working.
However on my HTPC it does not work yet.

Thanks

You may not have another splitter on your HTPC, try installing the Haali splitter or the Gabest splitter. I've always used Haali and never had a problem, others prefer Gabest

You could buy a Sage HD-Extender. It can handle mkv subtitles with no issues.

With all due respect, why should I buy another box?
I spen a lot of effort and money to setup my HTPC, and I would like to use it.

SageTV says they support DirectShow, MKV with subtitles. For some of you it's working. I just want the same.

Can you guys help with to debug what is wrong with my SageTV setup?
How come that from outside of SageTV everything works correctly?

I think the setup for Hali splitter, FFDshow installed. GraphEdit suggests the DirectShow works correctly.

Thanks

Sorry for the suggestion, but to my knowledge Sage only support mkv subtitles on the extender. Not the clients yet. It might have changed since last time I checked but it does not work on my client (7.1.5) either.

I hope you find a solution. Good luck

I'm not on the beta (7.0.23 still), but I've put subs in my MKVs and they work fine, both forced and full subs. What I can't say is whether or not I'm able to switch between them within SageTV. I haven't watched something with subs recently. So, I can assure you that clients do have some sort of support for subs in MKVs.

It did take quite a bit of work for me to get it working, though, and I don't recall the specifics at the moment. Sorry.

Check what Narflex wrote in this thread:

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...=mkv+subtitles

If this is still valid, you need to have you subs in a text file for the client to read them.
