Can't get channels to change

Hi there,

I am trying to get my sagetv setup properly.

I have already got my HDPVR working. I have tested the playback of video and it works fine.

I have a USB-IRT hooked up also. The drivers are installed.

SageTV sees the device and tries to send signals to my Dish Network box. When I do a channel preview (I am still in the setup phase of things) I see the lights blink on the USB-IRT but no channel change occurs.

I know I used the right remote to program 0-9 with, and I know I am using the right Dish Network box.

I have moved the USB-IRT around to see if it just didn't have a line of sight. But the thing is pointed directly at the Dish Network box.

I am out of ideas, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Les

I can think of two things to check, just off the top of my head..

Is the USB-IRT pointed at the IR receiver on the dish box ? Just pointing it at the dish box wont work if it's not aligned with the IR reciever. Sometimes it's a little hard to see but shine a flashlight at the front of the Dish box and you should be able to see it.

Maybe you need to adjust the timing or delay on the USB-IRT. It could be sending the signals, but they are being sent too slow so, the Dish box is just timing out and returning to the current channel. You can adjust these setting in 'Setup - Setup Video Sources' then edit the 'Tuner Control' for your tuner.

I keep my Sage Server and Dish box and antenna feeds in my basement in a utility room. I have a little monitor to watch the output of the box directly so I don't have to wait for the lag of Sage's buffer.

I would also program in the "Select" button.

Then you can try sending commands, including "Select" which on my receiver just puts a translucent banner over the show that is on. It also wakes it up.

The other poster is correct - I had to fiddle with repeat rates and timing delays between digits. That could be all that it is.

If necessary, try Shadeblue's STB KeepAlive utility. It's great for Dish especially, and it has a nifty little utility where you can "read" a code, see it in text, and copy that text to your IR file. That's how I got the "Select" command in correctly along with the standard 0-9 digits and such.

Also, I've heard it advised that when you learn an IR code the remote should be parallel with the USB-UIRT and you should watch out for flourescent lighting.

One last thing - if you are using the IR emitter stickies, you pretty much need them stuck over the IR receiver on the Dish unit. But, I have heard, and I can't attest to this personally, that while, of course, it's best to point the main IR emitter of the USB-UIRT at the window of the Dish receiver, it's output is so strong that it MIGHT overpower some IR receiving sensors, since it was designed to be like a regular TV remote that can send out an IR signal strong enough to be received from across the room. I keep my main IR transmitter about 6 inches from the front of my Dish receiver, on the IR receiving side of the box, of course. Just something to think about.

Thanks you for the replies.

I tried the 'select' and the 'repeat count' suggestions last night, and that got it working

Thank you again for the help.
