How do I change channels?

I have Sagetv 5 with a SD40 directv box. As far as I know its not serial controllable. I have the mcr remote with the usb-uirt. I can program it to change channels with the tivo remote, but not with the mce remote. I want to use the mcr remote for sage. I am not sure how to do this at all. I made sage create an ir file and put the tivo remote codes in there for channels 0 through 9, but how do I use the mce remote?

Do you have a USB-UIRT, or do you mean the USB receiver that comes with an MCE remote?

SageTV can directly use a USB-UIRT to change channels on a converter box & that would be configured when you set up the source in SageTV.

But for the MCE USB device, you would have to use something else that can control its blaster -- perhaps Girder or HIP.

I am sorry, I should of mentioned that I have the usb-uirt. I want to be able to use the mce remote and change channels with that, but I can't get it working.

You did mention you had a USB-UIRT, but since someone else thought that was a generic term for an IR receiver that plugs into a USB port, instead of a specific product, I thought I would make sure.

During source setup, use the remote that works with the converter box to teach SageTV its commands -- steps 5 - 6 of Source Setup in the SageTV PDF manual; pages 149-150 for v5. Those are the IR codes to use when SageTV needs to change the channel.

You will then need go to Detailed Setup -> Commands to choose the remote you will be using: select USB-UIRT; you would select MCE if you were using the MCE receiver. Fianlly, teach SageTV the IR codes for each button, assigning them to the command each buttons should be associated with.

Anyway, those are the basics.

This is the spot I'm stuck at. I've got a Hauppauge PVR 250 and it's "eye" to use a hauppauge remote with. I've also got a serial irblaster to change the channel on my dish receiver. When I get to step 5 there are only 3 choices to select as a tuning plugin; DirecTV, USB-UIRT, and the IR200L. What am I suppose to choose if I want to use the serial irblaster to change channels? I'm assuming that I will need to use HIP, but don't know how to tell Sage to use HIP. What am I missing?
