3.2 Fanart Differences

Previous to 3.2, if I had a TV show with 6 recordings for example (White Collar), every time I clicked on each episode, a new fanart image would display (or if you have the option set, Sage would cycle through each recording automatically if you left the highlight on the show...and a new image would appear for each one).

Now, I get only one image shown, always the same one, out of the 10 or so images in the fanart folders.

Also, I am now getting low quality "Episode" screen caps shown for some shows...and high quality fanart for others of the same series. The episode images are in the Phoenix fanart folders for each show. I've never seen these "episode" things before. I don't use any episode options, as I only record new shows and never save them.

Basically, I only want the high quality 1920x1080 TVDB backgrounds shown, and I would like it to constantly cycle, using all high quality images. (cycling banners would be cool too).

The episode images are really bugging me, they are like 720x480 and look horrible when blown up.

Help, thoughts, ideas?

The rest of 3.2 is awesome, and it seems faster, great work.

P

Not sure what you are saying in one sentence you say episode screens then you say fanart backgrounds. We have never supported cycling fanart and we won't. Screen caps with explanations would help, but we didn't change anything in this respect.

Image 1: High Quality Fan Art displayed

Image 2: Low Quality 400x225 Episode thumb

Image 3: Appears in Phoenix folder once:

Image 4: Appears in Diamond Images Cache (episode thumbs) twice:

All shows are from this season, consecutive recordings. 4 display the high quality fan art background, 2 display the low quality thumb.

As for the different fanart images changing, it may have been unintentional, but 7.1.2 and 3.1 did it. (And since it sounds confusing, The banners have always been the same one displayed, the background has always been the same one, and the poster has always been the same....but the "upper right" fanart image is the one I'm talking about).

Those are episode screenshots if you have the option on to show fanart thumbnails in diamond fanart options. If it doesn't have a episode thumb it uses the fanart so it is working as intended. If you turn the show fanart thumbnails off it will show the default screen caps
This was the same in previous diamond we have never supported multiple backgrounds

I belive that's an issue with Phoenix, I've started noticing this as well.

phoenix.fanart.GetDefaultEpisode() must be returning the same image for both episodes.

The "upper right" image is cycling/changing, what have you...in the recording detail screen:

and after left arrowing out, and then back in:

P

Edit: Thanks EP, any idea how to keep that thing from showing? I've never seen it before and it is 400x225. I just want the TVDB high quality stuff to be shown.

Polypro,

Do you have Phoenix Fanart for V7 plugin or Read Write Edit Metadata plugin installed?

No it works like I said and checks for episode screenshots first before using fanart there is no way to just show fanart as it will always be the same as the bg image

The top image in your info is series images from sagetv not us and they are not high res

Also it would make no different to use 1920x1080 images in the top right as it doesn't takE up the entire screen so it is scaled by sagetv anyways you can show more than the pixel space it uses.

You don't really need it with Diamond so you can uninstall it. It does cycle the upper right fanart and so it may be messing with Diamond fanart so you won't see what Plucky and EP had in mind for episode fanart etc...

It definitely shows something different, that was the confusion. I disabled it and saw the 4x3 Sage images...then I re-enabled it. It must be acting differently with 3.2/7.1.5 than it did previously (the cycling of images). It seems a shame to have 10 banners, 10 backgrounds and 10 posters for shows, but only use one...that's my feature request for 3.3 - let's use all our art! Thanks for the troubleshooting.

Likely hood is about 0% mostly because it kills extenders to be constantly changing fanarts and I never saw the point of more than one myself .plus at this point it would require allot of caching code changes which we finally have working well.

That really is a shame, because I was really starting to like Diamond. I dont see the point, however, of using it if its going to (artificially) limit what can be done with fanart. We know Sage and the extenders can handle it, because it was something I loved from version 6. I spent a lot of time tracking down some great fanart, including rare and foreign poster images for my movies and it seems a shame not to be able to see them. I would probably even settle for Diamond picking a different random image every time a show/movie was navigated too. I have 25 different backgrounds for "star trek the next generation". It would be nice to see more that just the first one all the time.

I certainly don't want to sound ungrateful, and I think Diamond is great but personally I think you're cutting it off at the knees. I know you said above that you don't understand or see the need for more than one image. I just wanted to let you know, should you reconsider in the future, there is at least one person who would be very happy if Diamond had the option to utilize more of the fanart that I spent so much time collecting.

Thanks for listening and thanks for all the hard work,
Nick

Okay warning my nice button has been turned off. If you feel it is going to artificially limit then don't use the dang thing don't come in here and say statements like that. I feel Diamond makes the sage experience better if you feel we limit you then break open studio and java and have at it or what for another option don't come in here and say we are artificially limiting you when we do this for free/fun.

you "know" the extenders can handle it fine huh? you coded it yourself and know for sure? This I doubt if you "know" then do it. I can tell you from my experience with all the projects I have done multiple fanart slows extenders down espcially if you are trying to scroll when it is trying to randomly change the fanart. When I had random fanart early in SMW biggest compliants was the slow downs as it was in SageMC. I didn't say it wasn't possible I said it wasn't worth the slowdown it causes. If you think you can do better go ahead.

Then you should have never made this post because that is exactly how it sounded and sorry Diamond isn't for you hopefully another option will be.

This was what I came in searching for... found different answer to what I was hoping - Damn!

For my movies I use Cover Flow view and when the screen goes into full screen mode an awesome background appears.... LOVE IT! Was hoping there was a switch to turn on a "rotate through backgrounds".

I see in another post about 0% chance and likely becuase of extenders.... I use a HTPC... here's 1 vote for it someday to be considered as a user selectable switch, perhaps in the manner of "seconds" (0=off, 10= change every 10 seconds).

LOVE Diamond!!!!

The new Phoenix Fanart plugin doesn't try to show backgrounds if Diamond is enabled. I'll add a check on the preview/thumbnail fanart too.
