Hi Fuzzy, I'm planning on doing the V9 upgrade on my next weekend. Are there posted instructions for spoofing XBMC anywhere? If not can you explain how I would accomplish that?

Thanks!

Using a v9 build, set:

custom_user_agent=UPnP/1.0 DLNADOC/1.50 XBMC

in sageclient.properties and it PlayOn should see your sage client as XBMC and send the HD stream.

Thanks Fuzzy. That gives me a project for my next weekend. I just fired up the most recent Openelec and it plays HD from playon V4 no problem.

I'm not sure if EvilPenguin is active anymore. I am working on a new PlayOn plugin but it's slow going now due to lack of time. i have the basics in place but am having some issues getting video to play.

Tom,
I'm very excited to hear you are doing this (and patient enough to wait ). Curious question: Is the PlayLater stuff in PlayOn open from their side so that you could use the bones of your Youtube 2015 work (along with the "podcast recorder" stuff) and allow the Sage UI to set up PlayLater recordings, "subscriptions", etc?

My Sage server is in the basement and while I can easily go down there and set things to record, it would be great to do it from the comfort of my family room couch on an extender.

I have only done some preliminary testing but it looks to me like the shows you have recorded via PlayLater turn up in a UPnP folder called "Recorded Shows".

As for recording, ironically that may be easier to do then progressive playback. And yes, I plan on using the bones of the YouTube plugin to have all of the same functionality for recording PlayOn content.

Right now I have no time available Work is very busy and then I'm going to Hawaii for Christmas (First World problems!)

You can customize where PlayLater content is placed. I put mine in a specific folder, and point Sage to it as an Import Folder. This allows sage to pull in things recorded by PlayLater, and they'll show up like any other sage recording. I think what he was asking for, was a way to schedule a PlayLater recording from in the STV (could be as simple as hitting REC on a item or folder in your browser). Have that REC option tell PlayLater - via whatever API PlayOn offers - to record that item or folder (which PlayLater would then add to it's queue, and get when it has a chance).

Exactly. I already have the PlayLater recordings folder in a folder visible to Sage (so the stuff I have set with a subscription just shows up regularly and I can watch it from Sage). I was just wondering about the ability to surf PlayOn and choose stuff to record (or set a subscription for) from within Sage. I realize that the Podcast Recorder has been able to basically do this all along but it's sketchy (doesn't always work, doesn't work on all PlayOn channels), and it's also "questionable" for other reasons (though, now that PlayLater exists, it shouldn't be "questionable" any more ). If that function could be done through Sage via PlayLater (rather than the Podcast Recorder function), it would make it more reliable and, well, unquestionably legal.

I like the idea of using PlayLater to record but I don't think there is a published API that I can use.

Not published, that I know of, but reverse engineered here: https://github.com/CodePenguin/PlayPass

Wow.. I just browsed through the XML files the PlayOn server provides.. It makes things REALLY easy to add things to the queue.

http://localhost:54479/data/data.xml is your starting point, and it expands from there. When you get to an actual video item, the resulting XML has a <media_playlater> tag that includes the URL to add that item to the queue. Request that, and it's added.

Anyone else's PlayOn not working through Sage? Mine stopped... when I click "browse PlayOn" the green bar just runs and it never comes up with the channel list. PlayOn is working fine in the standalone PlayOn browser so it's something in the Sage implementation.

I tried disabling and re-enabling it, but I can't try uninstall/reinstall until after all of tonight's shows record (since I'm sure that requires a reboot of Sage).

I suspect it's me but I thought I'd ask...

PlayOn is still working fine here.

PlayOn -> PlayOn -> Browse PlayOn correctly brings up my list of services.

So I realize PlayOn is EP's baby and he's long gone, but I'll post this hoping someone might have had the same thing and figured out how to fix it:

As mentioned above, my PlayOn is not working in Sage. Works just fine in the PlayOn browser on the server (so I can manually set stuff to record, etc.) But when I hit "browse PlayOn" in Sage, the green Sage line appears (Sage's equivalent of the spinning circle or "thinking" indicator)... and stays there. Like, it never even times out. I left it on for over 10 minutes and it did nothing. So I can't get to the PlayOn channel listings.

Anyone seen this, or know what can cause it?

I tried uninstalling it but it really just disables it, all the software apparently stays installed.

I did notice the other day that I have about 6 instances of the uPnP executable running on the server... I wonder if that has something to do with it.

The only changes I've made at all are some messing around with a second router (discussed in the hardware support forum here), which briefly caused the server to lose connection with everything else on the network, but that's all resolved - and I believe my wife indicated the PlayOn problem was happening before I did that anyway (plus I don't know how that would mess up a Sage plugin).

Help?

Be careful with PlayOn subscriptions!

Today I was billed $19.99 by PlayOn for an annual subscription which I had started in 2012. But I bought a lifetime PlayOn + PlayLater bundle in 2014. It looks like they didn't automatically cancel my annual subscription when I bought the Lifetime sub - so if anyone else has done the same you may want to make sure that you aren't still being billed as well.

I think I've seen that before and I believe I went and manually deleted the folder this plugin uses "C:\Program Files (x86)\SageTV\SageTV\SageOnlineServicesEXEs" in my case. re-installed and got it working. I would make a back up of the folder just in case. I believe in the end I figured out it was most likely a problem with one of the cache files it creates.

Are you talking about "Media Center Import Directories" I have my PlayLater stuff getting recorded here. But this directory is not like any other sage recording. When I (manually) run Comskip against these files it creates the proper text file of commercial skips. However, playback ignores the comskip files.

My experience is that Import Directories are a little different than Recorded Files. I have even tried moving PlayLater recordings to the Sage Recording directory but they don't show up. I'm a long time user and I have a vague recollection that you have to install a web plugin and import the recordings that way when you are upgrading and migrating. In more than a dozen years I have only had 3 "servers" so migration does not happen often.

That should not be the case. When Sage is playing back a file (assuming you have the comskip plugin installed) it will look for an .edl file and use it if it finds one.
