Recorded shows not playing back right

ok, so Friday night after done watching TV/etc everything working just fine and dandy (although I am, not entirely clear on what dandy is? what is a dandy?) and I updated to the latest Diamond, and SMM I think...

Saturday - I try to watch recorded TV...plays for maybe a minute, then playback turns into a slide show... rather annoying really... UI becomes unresponsive... little circle of death spins its little heart out...

Live TV works fine... playing Movies works fine...

turns out about half my recorded shows work fine too...

the only difference I can find between the recorded shows that worky vs the no-worky recorded shows is that unhappy no-worky are all on drive S:\, happy worky are all on drive T:\

what did diamond (or SMM?) do to my S:\ drive? how did Diamond do whatever it did?

will diamond (or SMM?) go down in history as the only Sage plug in that can destroy(?) HDD's?

maybe your drive is failing. make sure it didnt switch to PIO mode, as that will annihilate throughput.

So can you play the content form S:\ if you place it on T:\? Ie is the content broken or the accessing the disk the problem.

Does it even copy, or does windows get upset at that?

Are there any warnings in your system event log about the S:\ disk?

Dose content from T:\ not play once copied to S:\?

thanks for the suggestions... so far all I have done is remove S:\ from the recording drive pool...

I will try copying a show over from S:\ to T:\ just to see what happens...
ok, currently copying one show, ~9GB... at 1.5MB/s... doesn't that seem kind of slow for a drive to drive local copy that isn't going over the network?
woo hoo... jumped up to Almost 3MB/s...

how do you check drive mode in win 7? I can't seem to find that???

Unhappy Slow

Yes...that is slow...

Very old HD's (not really used anymore) could tranfer at least 5MB/sec. Current 7200RPM HD's can typically do up to 125MB/sec but will probably do sustained transfers at 80 to 90MB/sec. Those are speeds to a different hard drive, if going to another partition on the same hard drive, you can cut the speeds by at least half (probably closer to 1/3 speed).

Recommend you look into this. You might be close to a total failure. Back up stuff now.
