mkv with no audio

I recently ripped of a few of my kid's dvds to mkv files using handbrake. I've done this many times before with no issues but something must be different this time. When I play with SageTV, I get no audio (AC3 Filter icon comes on but levels are at zero, no other config icons appear). GraphStudio says that I should be using CoreAVC and AC3Filter. If I play the file with WMP, I get the Haali icon, the CoreAVC icon, and the AC3Filter icon, and the file plays properly.

Which settings should I be setting in the AV Setting page of SageTV to affect the playback of mkv files? How do I make SageTV play the file with the same combo of filters as WMP? Why is AC3Filter not 'seeing' the audio stream in SageTV but seeing it in WMP?

Sorry, to be clear, I know how to force the use of CoreAVC for h264 video (and don't currently as it plays the video but will not release control back to sage for pause, ffwd, etc), but I don't see how to do a similar action for the audio.

The fact that I'm using Directshow for non-mpeg files implies that my filter priorities should cover this but something is weird as the result (in audio) is different from WMP, which uses Directshow filter priorities... right?
