HD-PVR Comcast MotorolaDCX3400 ir codes
Just got my HD-PVR. Love it. However, my USB-UIRT wouldn't learn the remote codes for my Comcast Motorola DCX3400 PVR cablebox. Google search revealed that this box uses the XMP ir protocol which self-learning ir devices have trouble with. An hour of further Googling yielded the actual hex codes for the box which I was able to copy to an .ir file for the USB-UIRT to use. This worked like a charm. (Thanks to the samaritan who took the trouble to find and post the codes.)
Download the attached file, MotorolaDCX3400.txt. Change the file extension from .txt to .ir--i.e., the file name should be "MotorolaDCX3400.ir" Open your Sage folder. Open the Common subfolder. Open the RemoteCodes subfolder. Then paste the "MotorolaDCX3400.ir" file in the USB-UIRT subfolder. Now open Sage. Go to Setup>SetupVideoSources and select your HD-PVR. Select "Tuner Control", then "Change Tuner Device". Now select the new file you have added, "MotorolaDCX3400". Close Setup and you should be good to go. Incidentally, the USB-UIRT is the bomb. I didn't have to plug in an ir extender to it to control the cable box. With the USB-UIRT sitting alongside the cable box (i.e., not aimed at it but with the faces of both pointing at the opposite room wall) the ir transmitter is strong enough to infallibly tune the cablebox by bouncing off the opposing wall and hitting the face of the cablebox. Very impressive! Note to Sage: I love your product. I want it to survive and prosper. Please take this as constructive criticism. I just wish it were easier to find out the things that one needs to know to get full performance out of it. As I have written in earlier posts, it's a geek product. (No disrespect, anyone, geeks are this country's future.) I barely have enough geek in me to figure these things out, with a lot of help from others. I'd like to see enough info readily available to the Sage user who is just barely "geek" to encourage lots more people to buy and use it. My suggestion continues to be to greatly enlarge the FAQ on the Sage website to include info like I have given above. |

Any idea if the Motorola DCX3200 uses the same protocol/hex codes?

If the USB-UIRT has trouble learning your codes, there's a good chance this is one of the XMP protocol boxes and it's worth a try using these codes. If that fails, try Googling the name of the box + ir codes.
Good luck. |

If you want to control more than one set top box, there's a really nice post by Shadeblue that shows the diagram to control 3 set top boxes with one USB-UIRT. If the set top boxes have adjustable IR codes, then you could control many more than 3 set top boxes with only one USB-UIRT. The USB-UIRT has been running for many years. I should probably buy a spare one just in case it breaks someday. The USB-UIRT gives you the freedom to switch your TV provider every couple of years when they jack up the rates. You can also call their 'customer retention' or 'loyalty' department if you are near the end of a contact to get better rates or they will give you something free. If you don't call, then you will pay more for the service than other people who did call to get a lower price or more services for the same price.
