How can I re-enable the System Message Icon?

I inadvertently disabled the system message icon ("!") from showing up on the main screen when there is a system message to read.

I couldn't find anything in the detailed setup or system message screen to bring this back.

If anyone knows how to re-enable this feature, I would be most grateful.

I'm not sure if you can do it from the in app settings, but...

In order to enable System messages, Shutdown SageTV and its service, then edit the file C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\Sage.Properties and add the following line:

msg/curr_alert_level=X

where X is a value from 0-3; with 0=No Alert, 1=Info Alert, 2=Warning Alert, 3=Error Alert.

Do you know what the default level is?

And if I set it to level 3, will this also show Info and Warning alerts...or would I need to do this in three separate entries?

You shouldn't need to add lines to Sage.properties. Every property setting that actually does something should be there already. Find the existing entry and change it. Adding a duplicate entry with a different value may have unpredictable effects.

Delete the existing entry and it will revert to the default. That's true for any property setting.

Setting it to 3 brings back the message alert main screen icon!

The System Messages alert icon is automatically shown when there are new messages, until the alert is reset on the System Messages menu.

But, even after you reset the alert level, you can still get to the System Messages via Setup -> System Messages, or use the Info command on the Main Menu, then choose System Messages from the top of the System Information menu.
