No Audio from some HD Via Extenders
So I have several 720p & 1080p mkv's where I get no audio from the extenders. They work fine via place-shifter on my desktop. Is there a proper codec pack or something I should install on the server to improve compatibility, Or am I just toast.

You need to find out what audio format is in the mkv. And what extenders are you using. HD200 can only do passthru for DTS. If it is AC3 I believe it would downmix and play. HD300 can pass thru and I believe downmix DTS but you need to pick the correct configuration on the extender. Everything is done in hardware on the extenders so no use of codecs or anything like that

So first you need to know what audio format is in the mkv that you are trying to play.

Not sure if this is your issue or not, but I have had this happen a few times and I had to restart the SageTV service on the server. Once I did that I then received Audio on the extender.

Before you play your video or movie you are having trouble with.... select it and press the "i" button on the remote or click the video and choose "view video detail". If you are using an HD200 and the audio format is DTS-MA then the HD 200 will not play any sound coming out of your TV. The HD300 can do this, but not the HD200. I am pretty sure it is the DTS-MA one that causes it to not work, but regular DTS does work (edit-- I think it works, anyway. It has been a while since I tried using the HD200 so I may be wrong...).
I hope that helps. Its not the video type that is causing you problems, it is the audio format. Last edited by sungod; 02-13-2011 at 11:33 AM. |

The audio for the ones that aren't playing say DCA/1536kbps@48kHz 5.1
Also I went into the audio settings & changed it to digital bitstream & no change. Edit: Ok & as far as I can tell since I am going straight to my TV passthrough wont work so I am up a creek for these. I Did convert one on the server to a HD avi (using sage from the extender) & it played fine. So its just more of an annoyance then anything. Last edited by bastage; 02-15-2011 at 09:09 PM. |

If i recall correctly, this is a hardware limitation of that model. I have had no issues with the HD300 series. I own the HD100, 200 and 300 series and I noticed that the HD300 is about 20% faster overall (despite my really old and slow computer).
I know it's a bummer but it is just the way it is. I used to convert the streams which is an annoyance (been there) but I found it was worth my time to just get a new player for the "main" tv and found a new place for the 200 series in the house. A new TV might be able to decode the signal if you went with PCM, I think it is called, during the setup phase then the extender first turns on. If you hit stop and go to setup you can change it there. Looks like you already tried that and not all Televisions can do this. Sorry I cannot help you further. |
