Just got my two HD Extenders and...
The set up of the first one went well enough. I really like it and watched it for a few hours before moving to the master bedroom for #2. As soon as I hooked it up and it booted I set the output connection types. Afterwards I connected to my server.... and it just sits there saying sage trial expired.
Before anyone asks, yes I checked there were no firmware updates. The server reflects the proper amount of Extender/Placeshifter licenses available. Now what? The wife is asleep so I will have to play with it more tomorrow. Right now the only question I have about the extender as a whole is can I force aspect to fill ALL the time? I set it to fill and it just resets after poweroff. I only get a few HD channels in the clear so most of my channels will not be 16x9 and screen filling otherwise. |

Did you exit SageTV completely on the server before registering the extender licenses? If not, make sure SageTV is not running on the server, including the service if that is in use, unregister the licenses, then re-register them.
Make sure there are not more remote clients active (Placeshifter & extenders) than there are licenses registered for them. To set the default aspect ratio on the extender, edit its <mac address>.properties file in the "clients" subfolder & set this line: default_advanced_aspect_ratio=Fill - Andy

ok well...the aspect ratio setting worked but after stopping the service and unregistering/reregistering the licenses.... the server service won't start anymore.

How did you stop the service -- did you use the SageTV utility to do that? What does it do when you try to restart the service? Try rebooting.

i used the service manager to stop it and then I removed and re-added all the licenses.
It says that the service failed to start in a timely manner. That usually means it crashed. I can run the normal client interactively and it works and the extender connects but I don't get what happened to the service. P.S. Hrm.. I saw a bunch of properties files in the client folder and I deleted them all but the one for the new extender. Could that have caused this? |

Removing the remote clients' properties files shouldn't affect the service.
Try checking the debug log after trying to start the service. Don't forget to use a plain text editor to edit sage.properties. - Andy

well that is interesting. I right clicked on the service executeable and chose to run as administrator. I popped up a message saying "the key" was invalid and did I want to enter a new one or click no to revert to an old one. I think I clicked cancel and now the service starts but my extender says its expired now HA!
So now I just did the sagetv REGISTER command and re-entered my media center license and it appears to be working... service and all. Wierd. I swear, all I did was do what you said with the unreg/rereg licenses and add the line to the client propery file and delete the extranious ones.
