Win 7 64, HVR 2250 UAC issue

Hi guys annoying problem here, hoping someone can help.

I have searched and read and have done what I can from what I found.

I just switched from WHS to Win 7 64 bit. I was have had lots of issues with WHS for a good year and decided to pack it in.

So that being said I did not format my old pool drives, I simply let win 7 see them as drives, which it did no problem. A bit of sorting things out later all is fine.

I installed my HD PVR which seemed to have no issue.

When I installed my 2 HVR 2250's I used the latest driver from Hauppauge not the win7 drivers.
Once Sage was running I ran with just the PVR for a few days no issues. Once I started setting up the 2250's I started getting the -3,0x80070070 "problem accessing filr system for caputre" So I unistalled the 2250's and then the issue started with the HD PVR.

I turned off UAC (using the scroll bar and put it to the lowest setting) I did check the registry and it seems to be off.
I set permissions for the drives to be accessible to everyone.
I set Sage service to logon with the admin user and password.
Sage is installed to the normal C: location,
Recordings are pointed to another drive 1.5Tb which is empty. I did get one good recording before I installed the 2250.

Oh the 2250's showed as 1750's in the device manager, but then after the reinstall they showed up as 8880.

And I'm still stuck.

My system
Win 7 64 bit
Xeon 5410
8gb ram
Sagetv 7.0.23.24.6
Java 1.60.23
UAC off
2250 driver 7.9.1.28162
HD PVR driver 1.5.7.0

Hope someone has a clue what my issue is.

Thanks!

Just to add, tonight the Sage service stopped running on it's own. It's happened a few times now.
I tried uninstalling the 2250's. Sage wouldn't allow me to remove one of them. Anyway I have had to remove the cards from the computer.

Did you try re-installing Sage after turning UAC off? This what I did; but I have Win 7 32x.

I don't really have any ideas where your problem is, but it should diffinitely work with win7 64-bit. That's virtually identical to the setup that I'm running with win 7 64-bit (hvr-2250 and hd-pvr).

I'd say try and do a clean install of win7 and sage and see if you still run into problems!

Well I got it all working as it should... now its just a matter of seeing if it stays that way.

I did a full Win 7 64bit reinstall including reformatting.

A couple things else I did was;

Enabled the adminstrator account and run and installed everything from that account.
Removed UAC right after this step.
I took ownership of each drive as the adminstrator

I installed all updates to win7 and installed each piece of hardware one at a time with rebooting allot.

I installed Sage in C:\sagetv\

Installed each source one ot a time and tested

Then added each storage HD (all eight) one at a time and took ownership.

So both 2250's and the HD PVR seem to be working fine.

Also the IR blaster to the cable box seems to work much faster than it did under WHS.

My issue with Sage and 2250

I have been running fine with SageTV as a service for over a month now on the 2250 tuner card. I just installed the latest Hauppauge driver and after that the Sage service stopped loading on startup. I can't even manually start the service as needed. I was able to roll back to the previous version and so far it looks like the service is starting correctly.

There appears to be some problem with the current Hauppauge driver and Sage with Sage as a service. It records fine when the program is active (not as a service).

I just built a new DVR with Windows 7 32-bit and a Hauppauge 2250 and had a similar problem. I didn't record the error code number but it sounds the same as what you experienced. I had been testing Windows Media Center to see how well it would work before testing and buying SageTV. I had to disable the Windows Media Center services so there was no conflict between it and SageTV over the tuner. Since then I have had no problems other than signal dropout due to a bad cable signal. I am using the 7.9.1.28162 driver for the 2250.

Just as a rule of thumb, I disable UAC EVERY TIME I do any type of software install or upgrade. PERIOD!! I've seen it screw up installs even when everything seems to have gone fine. In all honesty, I keep it disabled on all my PCs.

Don't forget to check on Java

I just performed a Java upgrade today (Java 6 Update 33) and afterwards Sage would not run. I even restarted and still it did not run. Remembering other similar situations, I did a complete uninstall of Java. I then went to Java dot com and downloaded the software fresh (I had to look for a link to the old Java 6 files since Java 7 is now available). I then installed it. After a reboot Sage was working fine again even as a service.

Moral of this story - Don't forget that Java plays a key part in Sage's operation since that is the language Sage is written in.
