HDHR Choppy Playback

My system was running smooth for so long that something had to go wrong...

I am using a HDHR to record digital OTA channels and everything was working great for months. Now, there seems to be a problem with communication between my server and the HDHR.

When I watch live TV directly through the HDHR app, everything is smooth. When I pull up the same channel on my server, it gets choppy.

It seems like it gets worse when there are 2 recordings going on. I can't figure out if its a network problem or what. I can stream blurays over the network to my HD200's just fine though.

My server is a quad core beast with 6 gb of ram and I have never seen the cpu maxed out even with comskip running on 2 simultaneous HD recordings.

I'm using the linksys WRT300 router.

Does anyone know any setting to try or anything that might help?

Thanks.

Have you checked how much network consumption you have?

Are you using wired or wireless? Your WRT300 is a wireless N router. Does it also have hard wire jacks? If you are using wireless, try switching to wired to isolate the problem between wireless and wired. Wireless can have immediate, intermittent , or long-term reliability problems.

If you have an image of your system, you could take an image now, then recover back in time before the problem occurred. Then check to see if the problem is still occurring. If the problem is gone, then some software change caused that problem. If the problem still exists, then you know it is something else and you can recover back to your current image. If you didn't take an image or are using WHS, then you can't use imaging to try to isolate the problem.

If you don't have an image or are using WHS, you can isolate the problem by re-installing everything on a different boot/programs drive, which will take longer and will be a pain. This will preserve your current boot/programs drive.

You might also have a problem with your router becoming flaky. I've had a couple routers become flaky over the past two decades. You could try swapping out your router. A spare router can come in very handy since routers can fail at inconvenient times, such as a holiday when the stores are closed.
