HD200 choppy playback
I have (3) HD100 extenders and (1) HD200 extender, all connected to a wired network. When running under Linux (Sage V7), all was well. I recently went back to Windows (Sage V7) and everything works ok, except when I play back videos using my HD200 extender.
For TV recordings, I don't have any issues, but when I playback home movies, made with iMovie (Non HD), it starts to get choppy. If I simply pause and watch the HD200 green activity light, and wait for it to stop flashing, then when I press play, it plays fine for a about 45 seconds. It then gets choppy again and I have to his pause again. The movies are not big movies, some are only 75mb in size and this is not an issue with my HD100 extenders. The videos are on a separate SATA 300 drive than the TV recordings, and when I look at the overall server utilization, it is only at 1 to 3% during the playback. The server is running Windows 7 on a dual core AM2+ processor. The HD200 is at the recommended firmware level for Sage 7. Any ideas of what this might be causing this? Thanks, --Paul Last edited by pzasso; 05-22-2011 at 12:13 PM. |

Now that Sage 7 has been out for a while, I wanted to refresh my original post with some additional information in hopes that some else has seen this issue and maybe has a solution.
I have upgraded to the latest beta version of Sage and that has not made any difference on how my .m4v files play back using my HD200 Media Extender when connected to the Sage server. If I take the same exact video file and play it from a USB stick plugged into my HD200 in standalone mode, it plays just fine. I can also connect to the same server that is running sage, but connect to a Windows share and play that same file across the network with the HD200 in standalone mode, and it plays just fine. So it is really looking like the issue is in the sage server, especially since I didn't have this issue with Sage Version 6. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, --Paul |

This just happened to me as well. My system was running normally (no recent hardware/software changes) and my HD200 started playing ripped DVD's all choppy. I have 2 HD200 and 2 HD300. Only 1 HD200 has done this. All are hardwired. I am working on it this afternoon. Please post if you find a solution.

anyone found a solution or the problem here? I am having the same issue. 2 wired HD200 that played perfectly off Sage v7 off WHS v1 is not stuttering on most ripped movies when played off Sage v7.1 off WHS v2. During movie playback, CPU on server is < 5% and network utilization steady at .75%

I think I'm having the same issue.
Oh my hd200, it's never done this before, but now when I'm playing mkv or mp4 files, it will play for a while ok, then it may stop for a few secs, then speeds up to catch up to where it should have been and of course the sound is either cut off or something at this point. I usually have the rewind a few seconds and then it will play ok for 30 secs and then it will do it again. I thought it just might be some movies that we watched last night that was 1080p, but this morning it did it again on a football game that I capped and encoded myself with megui that is 720P. But then after fighting with it for a few minutes of this crap, it will start working fine again. Everything is hardwired, but going through different switches. I've rebooted all devices and it continues. Wish I would have upgraded this one to a hd300 when I had the chance . |

HD300 does it too
I'm having the same issue with my HD300 exactly as you described. Plays about 10 mins then starts pausing for a few seconds, then speeds to catch up, rinse lather repeat. I rewind to re-watch and it plays fine the second time. The issue clears up after a minute or so and then plays fine for a while.
Hard-wired through a quality switch. CPU is 1%. The hard drive is chugging away at something though. I disabled ComSkip and virus scanners but that made no difference. In perfmon the system process is cranking on disk io but I haven't investigated further to see what it might be. I've only seen it on bluray rips. |

Yeah, the only thing I did is update the STV under Advanced Settings before last weekend when I think it started.
I have my movies on a i7 2600k with a SSD boot drive and 16 gigs of RAM, although my movies are on a Western Digital 3.0 USB external 3TB drive. I have another machine with the same specs with sage on it too that's my gaming machine with some movies on it's internal drive, so I guess I'll have to see if the problem happens with movies on that one. I haven't updated the STV on it though, so I guess when I have time I'll do some more troubleshooting. I've never had this problem before, it's like it just popped up with some recent windows update or driver update that is affecting sage. Weird stuff. I haven't tried watching any of the same movies on my hd300 in my bedroom. I guess in a way, I'm glad it's happening to others, even with hd300's so it's a common issue. But it sucks that sage isn't around anymore to correct stuff. |
