Inexpensive Sage TV Server
I am currently looking at setting up my in-laws with SageTV, but they have a pretty small budget. I've read several threads about people building their SageTV servers... but i haven't found the exact scenario that I am looking for.
At the bare minimum, they need something that will process recording two HD streams from an HD Homerun and watching a recording on a HD300. It would be preferable to run Comskip, which I realize will be the thing that needs processing power. However, as long as it gets the job done, I don't think it matters that Comskip runs slow. For example, it's likely they will record a show and watch it the next day (enough time for Comskip to do it's thing). I would prefer to buy a pre-built system like maybe a low end Zotac ZBOX. Thoughts? |

Pretty much any CPU in production now (or for the last 4 years) will provide that functionality. the MPEG2 recordings from the HDHomeRun are very easy to analyse with comskip, and atom 330 or d510 would do VERY well, and sip power/space as well.

I like to know how well this works for you, so please update this thread when you get it set up for your in-laws.
For the Zotac ZBOX, which is faster, the Intel Celeron SU2300 (1.2GHz, dual-core) or the Intel Atom D510 CPU (1.66 GHz, dual-core)?

I think they are pretty much on par performance wise, though I think the advantage of the pine trail platform gives the edge to the atom for this type of usage (pine trail has VERY low power usage). cost as well.

I've been looking for a small/cheap/low(ish) power unit to play with a home Asterisk VOIP system. At $230, this may fit the bill.
