How To: HD PVR on Windows 7 x64

I hadn't seen anyone post about this, so mainly this is just for public knowledge and to save newcomers some time.

To get SageTV 7 and an HD PVR working on Windows 7 x64:

1. Download and install latest driver - 1.5.7.0 as of this post - from the Hauppauge HD PVR support site.

[if you are not using the built-in ir blaster, then skip to step 6]

2. Download and install the WinTV TV Scheduler program and the IR blaster configuration program (both are required, sharing DLLs) from the support site under the Accessories tab.
3. Use the blastcfg app to setup the code for your STB. Test channel changing with low and high channel numbers.

[TME installation may not be necessary, skip to step 6 if you don't plan on using it and SageTV can already see the HD PVR tuner device]

4. Install TME from your HD PVR cd. I could not get the autorun/setup to work correctly, so I just browsed down into the cd folders and ran TME install from there.
5. Configure TME for AVCHD, set video & audio inputs, and make sure you can get live video + audio playback.
6. Set SageTV for the respective type of tuning (built-in ir blaster, usb-uirt, serial, etc), and you should be good to go.

The 1.5.7.0 driver changed the behavior of the red recording LED. Disabling the "bling" option in TME will disable both the blue bling light and the red recording LED.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't gotten into this yet, but I think it's coming. I am currently on Windows XP and plan to go to Windows 7 x64 when I have enough time. Any tips like this will come in very handy when I'm stuck.

I remember installing this all for the first time about 5 years ago and remember banging my head to get it all to work. Now it's working so close to perfect I'm afraid to change anything. Gotta do it sometime right?

I must have picked a good motherboard + OS combination, because this Win 7 x64 incarnation of my SageTV server has been rock-solid stable. So stable in fact, it is boring.

So to muck things up, I have a Colossus on the way and will be attempting dual-zone control with a USB-UIRT.

If there is any input that can be incorporated to show how to setup if you already have a card, that would be nice.

I have an HD PVR and a HVR 2250 (or some other internal Hauppauge card) and have been leery about trying to go to x64 given IR blaster setup stories. I'd only be interested in IR for the HD PVR (the card runs QAM).

My recommendation would be to install only 1 piece of capture hardware, whichever you consider the primary, and get it working fully in SageTV. Then install the other. And configure separate lineups.

I have got 2, 1212 I want to hook to dish boxes and I am just getting ready to start. Invaluable info. I run silicon dust network tuners for ota. I am looking to capture component out of the dish boxes.

Great start already with the info. Never done it, hope I can pick your brain / brains going forward.

I have two setups, both have two DirecTV H23-600 STB and two PVR 1212 Rev F1 using serial to change channels. Both setups work great and just upgraded to the 7.1 beta release using the Hauppauge drivers v1.5.7.0 running on Windows7 x86.

Is there a way to tweak the record volume?

Both setups were using a Hauppauge HVR-2250 in each using both analog inputs to record, and the HD is so much better over the 480.

I think the 1.5.7.0 driver has broken the red recording LED. Enabling/disabling the "bling" option in TME does not seem to make a difference.

Just FYI - If you are using the USB-UIRT for IR blasting, step one is all you need. All that other software isn't required.

You sure the TME setup (#4 & #5) is not necessary?

Yup only drivers for windows seven as you want to use the windows seven decoder as your decoder any how If you are playing back locally.

Is there a way outside of TME to enable/disable "bling" lights?
