USB Uirt no longer needed?

I was just watching TV and saw a ad for the xfinity app for the ipad. You can tune the box based on ipad interaction. If this is true could this replace the need for the USB-UIRT? This seems very good since we don't have to rely on a separate box and hardware to tune the box but tune if via some network. Anyone using this or thought of something like this?

It sounds like some of the Comcast boxes must be controllable through IP/TCP. If someone was able to get their hands on the API or control protocol, then they could probably write a SageTV plugin. But it certainly isn't going to happen automatically.

The Comcast DVR that I used recently (their current newest model) does not output whatever is recording. If you want to record from its outputs you need to watch a channel (enter the channel #) or watch a recording.

An annoyance is that if you're watching/recording it and you use its internal recorder, it throws up an info screen when recording starts etc..

I have no words to describe what a lame piece of ... um equipment that is.
The Comcast logo pretty much takes care of the description...
