Rendering MKV file not working on some

So I backed up Despicable Me to an MKV file. It played back great in Sage for about a week then I though I'd try removing the CoreAVC codec and test drive the Windows 7 built in codecs. Using the Windows 7 codec did take care of a problem I was having with the CoreAVC codec but now *some* of my MKV files do not play at all.

Here is the GraphStudio rendering of said file. It plays fine outside of Sage, but in Sage when I hit "play" on the remote, it opens the video and I see the timeline at the bottom of the screen and the movie info on top, but then no audio and no video. It's like it's stuck on pause. No error is thrown/visible.

Any idea what is going on?

One thing that caught my eye was that in the GraphStudio pin out, it's using VMR yet I have EVR set in Sage. So in Sage I tried changing to EMR but still no joy.

Thanks.

Sages internal MKV splitter doesn't like some MKVs. Might try installing the haali splitter and disabling Sage's internal splitter to see if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Thank you for the gem of an idea! Disabling the Sage splitter make the MKV file playback work. When I ran XP I used FilterManger from RadLight to set my decoder merit. That doesn't appear to work for Win 7 x64. Any suggestions for a program that works with Win 7 that can adjust the codec merit?

Thanks again for your help. Good call.

Nope, I've never needed to adjust merit manually so it's not something I've tracked down. Someone else may have an idea though

I don't know about x64, but my encoder merit wouldn't change until I figured out that I needed to run the program as administrator. A feature in w7 that I'm not liking that much.
