With SPDIF. And actually Arcsoft Showbiz is like a spruced-up version of TME, with three modules: capture, edit and produce. Very neat and intuitive, almost Apple-like. Version included is 3.5.17.70. It's way more responsive than TME, but maybe it is beacuse capture feels faster through PCIe than USB.

How does the quality compare to the Colossus? Better, worse, or about the same? |

Also, WinTV Extend (2.3b) works great with Colossus for TV streaming even at the highest resolutions. On iPad/iPhone, it still needs a minor update to correct the fps but on a PC the streaming, LAN or Internet, works fine. according to missingremote.com, the drivers for SageTV and MCE should be available on the next few days. |

Bad news, at least for me
New Colossus, brand new HP high end desktop, Windows 7 Ultimate 64, and lots of RAM. Still having micro-freezing issues when recording HD movies with SPDIF. The video quality seems better than HDPVR, but the freezing is still there, which makes the recordings pretty useless. And, to be clear, there is no freezing when I'm looking at the program direct from the STB.

The testing I've been doing was in the Arcsoft app for record, and I've been trying to play back with Windows Media Player. I was watching the record, real time, within the Arcsoft app, and I could see the stutter. I would then cease recording, and try to play back the segment, and the data was definitely missing from the recording. I'm not aware that there are any choices for decoder within the Arcsoft app (or, for that matter, within WMP). If you can kick me in the right direction, however, I would be thrilled to try anything you can suggest. I'm fairly technical (former professional software developer, but that was 10+ years ago - I'm a technology lawyer now), so feel free to provide technical detail if that would help.

trying playing the file in vlc or media player classic.
Also, have you tried different component cables? would hate to think the problem moved from hdpvr to colossus b/c you used the same cables.

You are using a BD player to convert movies through the HDPVR/Colossus? If that's the case what resolution are you using? If that is the case then what is probably happening is that the material on the BD disc is 24fps or 1080p24. This means that your BD player is either outputting 1080i30 or 720p60. In either case the player is having to convert the 24fps from the disc to 30 or 60 fps. Depending on how poor the conversion might be this could lead to notable stutters in the video, particularly in horizontal pans.
I don't use this method to convert my BD's. I have a BD-ROM drive and use AnyDVD and MeGUI to convert the video read as data off the disc rather than playing it through a stand-alone BD player.
