Right, the whole point of all this, i believe, was can you take one settop, point it to both the hdpvr and the colossus, and record with both to make sure the colossus is stable before removing the hdpvr.

But how would you make both record at once? Personally I don't know of a way to do that.

If you get the same show on two channels at once you can set manual recordings for both channels. I get East (Buffalo, NY) and West (Seattle, WA) versions of all US networks in HD plus several Canadian channels also carry the same network shows.

That would be a lot of work. I was thinking something more automatic.

Just remove the HD-PVR from setup/setup video sources. That way, the drivers remain, but since the tuner isn't in the list, it won't cause Sage any headaches. I do this to test tuners and cable/satellite setups between a PVR-150 and a HD-PVR. The only thing you have to reinstall is the irremote.ini file for whichever tuner your using, as that file is tied to it's respective tuner, and there can only be one instance of it in the C:\Windows dir (Windows 7).
Then, when you have finished deciding, pick the tuner you want to keep and remove the other one permanently. It only takes around five-10 minutes to enter a tuner, pick an ir blaster and have it's respective tv guide data load.

thanks folks....................i hadn't remembered there was a passthrough function in the hdpvr, so i'll just use that...................even worse, i forgot about audio completely............i'll have to try that inexpensive optical splitter (seems like a cool thing to have in the toolbox)..........i use firewire tuning so that should be an orthogonal issue for testing the colossus.............i'll set up the colossus tuner to use the same firewire channel changing as the hdpvr is use for passthrough................what i really want to see is that i can surf
channels and use liveTV without hanging up the colussus the way the hdpvr locks up

Considering the charge hit my bank account today, I would assume they are being shipped today, or tomorrow.

Now all I have to do is wait for the case for my new server.

Well, unless Sage releases the new Beta before then, you won't be able to use it anyway (At least not within Sage).

Why do you say that? Hauppauge announced its compatible with Sage and the link i posted earlier showed it working natively in Sage. Please don't spread FUD.

Specfically this post
http://www.missingremote.com/blog/hauppauge-colossus-qa
which states
What PVR software will support the Colossus as a HDTV tuner?

A. Initially support will be limited to SageTV 7.x. An minor update is required for SageTV.

Narflex said yesterday that there is a beta coming to support the Colussus. It is very possible that the folks on MissingRemote had access to a private beta that supports the Colussus.

Until that update is released (hopefully very soon), you won't be able to configure Sage to use your Colossus. That's all Tiki was saying.

Hauppage called me today cause I had an error in my address and these started shipping today. I should get it by tue/wed.

I probably won't even install it for a while though as for some weird reason my 2 external hdpvrs have been rock solid for the past month. Of course now I've probably jinxed it...
