Same here, couldn't resist this offer. Only problem is that I don't have internal pcix slots available at the moment. I was planning to update my htpc by the end of February, moving to an Intel based Sandy Bridge solution. But since Intel botched this, I'm not even sure, if I'll use the colossus once I receive it.

Ordered one too (I couldn't let that $129 opportunity slip away).

Have any Canadians ordered directly from Hauppauge before? I'm a bit worried that the shipping fees and customs fees will eliminate the $40 savings, and maybe I should just wait until a Canadian store has it.

Thoughts?

P.S. When will sagetv support Colossus?
Did you not see this?

If I am right then mpeg2 will never be as high quality as the H.264 for two reasons. 1) MPEG2 is not as efficient as H.264 and 2) compressed H.264 is the input of the transcoder not the pristine output of the A/D converter.

I am going off of SHS's description of the card that lists an H.264 encoder chip and a seperate transcoding chip for the MPEG2.

S
I don't think so, it's just got one VIXS chip on it, the chip is capable of H.264 or MPEG-2 compression, but apparently the Hauppauge-bundled software will only support H.264. It sounds like MPEG-2 should be exposed by the drivers (not clear if it will initially or at a later date) for Sage to use if it wants.

You might also still need a USB-UIRT if the Colossus IR blaster does not work correctly like the other Hauppauge products.
Well, really the only reason I've got Dish now is because of the R-5000 (was really the only way to get HD when I signed up) No real complaints with dish, but I'm already paying my cable company for internet and phone, and, since they now have the channels I want, will be easier to just switch to them (after I get the colossus' set up and verify they work well).

Question

I'm in for one... I can't wait to let Sage play with my full cable lineup instead of just the QAM I get with the HDHR.

In my zeal to lock up this deal I sent off my credit card info without checking to see if it will work with WHS v1. I don't see driver support listed for Server 2003, but the Hauppauge site says that it will work with XP. Does this mean it will work with Windows Home Server v1?

I hope so, otherwise I'm going to have to cancel my order...

Thanks for the heads up! I just ordered one too. My HDPVR is reasonably well behaved, but not completely trouble free. My past experiences with VISX based encoder quality (NVidia DualTV, Vista View 1N1) have been outstanding, so this is a no brainer for me.

I noticed on Hauppauge's description on the shopping pages it doesn't mention MPEG-2 at all. I take that to mean that at least initially no MPEG-2 support is planned. Bummer.

I know I read somewhere that this new Colossus card should work with Sage 7 - does anyone know if it works with the current release of Sage 7, or will it require a new Beta?

hopefully we'll know in a few days. Though I think Hauppauge has said on their facebook page that sage supports it. worst case, it'll take an update.. i can live with that.

Yeah, the post on MissingRemote.com mentioned above even has a screen shot of it being setup in Sage. I just wondered if he was using Beta software (which we might have to wait awhile for) or if it just worked out of the box with the current release.

My DirectTV which is a H24-200 only have coaxial digital audio out and this HD-PVR look like it only have digital optical input from what I read on missingremote blog.

Anyone use a convertor to convert the coaxial to optical? Any certain brand I should get?

couldn't resist...........put in an order for 1 unit. if it looks good, i'll get at least a 2nd and swap out both my hdpvr, which although pretty reliable for recordings, can't seen to handle liveTV.

i'll dedicate use of the new unit to liveTV, if possible................does anyone know if/how a tuner can be dedicated to liveTV? is this possible?

No, as far as sage is concerned, there's no such thing as LiveTV.

thanks........in that case, i'll make it the highest priority tuner for STB based programs and beat on it to see if it outperforms the hdpvr for liveTV (which shouldn't be hard in my setup..............i can usually hang it pretty quickly after a few channel changes, faster if i try to surf quickly, slower but still bad if i go slowly)

should be fun.........haven't had a new toy in a while now
