what plug-in puts fanart in Sage?

I just built a new SageTV computer and on purpose, I didn't want to import any of the .properties or wiz.bin files. Wanted a clean, fresh install.

So I imported and installed BMT and reassigned metadata to all the videos. What plugin is used to display coverart (posters, backgrounds) when you see imported media (videos) in videos? I thought the BMT plugin handled all of that. Guess not.

There is the Diamond plugin and the phoenix fanart plugin both in ui mod section. Keep in mind Diamond is a complete them plugin. Phoeinx fanart plugin mods certian sections of the default or diamond.

There is a sticky in the Batch metadata Tools forum that list the plugins that use BMT, or Phoenix Fanart APIs.

Hats off to all you guys. I'm running a TON of plugins and think I have every single one of the graphical fanart plugins installed. I'm not even 100% sure I know what each one is doing individually... all I know is that I have fanart, backgrounds, DVD covers, etc. showing up everywhere and it is damn cool

I'm amazed at how these all play nicely together so good job guys and thanks much!

My Fanart stopped working a while back and I am trying to get it fixed. I am confused as to what plugins I actually need. I saw BMT Web interface, Phoenix API, Phoenix Core, etc.

I am also seeing plugins failed as well. I would like to remove all of these plugins and start over.

Can someone please tell me the actual plugin(s) name and where they under in Sage 7 (i.e. general, ui, etc.) that I would need to get this to work.?

Thanks

The nice thing about the plugins in v7 is that they automatically resolve dependencies. So if you install Batch Metadata Tools - Web UI, then it will automatically install everything that is require for fetching metadata/fanart. But, it does not install any UI enhancements. You can check the sticky in the Batch Metadata Tools sub forum for a list of plugins that use BMT/Phoenix for displaying fanart.

I think I got everything installed correctly and without any failed plugins. I can get to the http://localhost:8080/bmt config screen.

My only problem is that it doesn't seem to be adding any new fanart to the central folder. I only have my old fanart folder from July which has a lot of data in it.

I did a media scan, but it dosn't seem to be adding anything new. How can I troubleshoot this.

Thanks

When you say you did a media scan, do you mean a full scan from the web ui? or you just told sagetv to refresh its media?

BMT adds fanart to items as they as added to the media library. it does not automaticially get fanart for things already added. That's what the web ui is for, ie, you can browse a folder and then do a scan.

I did a Sage media scan. I found where to do it in BMT and it looks like it is working now. Thanks for all your help!

I guess this is relevant enough to put here and not start a new thread:

I do not have any of the metadata-fetching plugins installed, nor do I want them. I don't want metadata (don't ask). However, I have large folders full of backgrounds and banners, left over from the FanArt plugin in v6. I don't own tons of media (or record and keep long-term) and I typically just got banners/backgrounds from various websites when something new came along. Since v7, these files have gone unused.

So my question is, is there a plugin that allows the backgrounds (at least) to be used, to replace the stock background when focused on a program (recording, DVD, etc.) that has a background file saved in the appropriate folder? I can rearrange my folder tree structure and call the folders whatever need be, if required (if the automatic metadata plugins save to folders with specific names, I can mimic that).

And, other than Diamond, is currently any other plugin that uses banners in any way?

The plugins that are listed in the bmt sticky, will use fanart if it exists. They will still require phoenix-api to resolve the fanart, but the phoenix-api does not, by itself, fetch fanart or metadata. So, it seems to me, that you just need to manually place the fanart in the central fanart folder, and use of one of the plugins listed in the sticky.

just so you know... you can still have the full bmt web ui installed, and NOT automatically fetch fanart and metadata. You just need to disable the "automatic" fetching either from the phoenix-core plugin configuration, or from the bmt web ui.

Without proper metadata though, things like TV fanart will be pretty much non-existent, since TV requires some metadata information be set against the mediafile in order for the fanart apis to resolve fanart correctly.

Thanks for your help!

Which plug in makes use of Phoenix fanart for TV recordings? I've got the videos working...

Just curious - on TV recordings, when you select "Recording Information", there is quite a bit of metadata there... episode description, plot, cast, director/backstage, etc. I have always assumed this came from Zap2It. Is this "metadata" not enough info for plugins to use the Phoenix fanart for TV? Or does it have to be in a .properties or .my file?

Phoenix Fanart uses some custom fields, MediaTitle, MediaType and SeasonNumber. There is quite a bit a of metadata on a recording, but Phoenix just assumes those 3 fields are there. It makes the process faster to assume something has fanart if it has those 3 fields, rather than trying to do a 100 different checks for various conditions, etc.
