Stutter in live TV from HD-PVR

Finally installed SageTV 7 RC. I have an HD-PVR that I setup as a TV source in SageTV. When I watch live TV from the HD-PVR, the picture has a prenounced stutter. I tried different combinations of Video Renderer and H.264 decoder. The best seems to be EVR renderer with Microsoft DVI-DVD decoder. However, even with the best settings, there is still a considerable stutter in the live TV picture.

Now, here's the kicker: The Live TV picture in Media Center on the same computer is flawless. No stutter at all. Same Video card, same drivers, same HD-PVR, same processor. So if Media Center (Windows 7) is flawless, and SageTV stutters, what can I adjust in the settings to get SageTV to playback the live TV through the same mechanism as Media Center?

How were you able to use the HDPVR in Windows Media Center?

If you installed Hauppauge's drivers for the HDPVR with Windows Media Center, then I would first remove those drivers and try with just 1.5.7

Two programs having control over one tuner may be the problem.

I am running the latest and greatest general release drivers for the Hauppauge HD-PVR 1.5.7.0. These drivers support use of (one) HD-PVR in Media Center on Windows 7.

Is no one else running SageTV 7 with the 1.5.7.0 drviers for the Hauppauge HD-PVR?

Yes, I have Sage 7 with the 1.5.7.0 drivers.

1.5.7.0 does not allow the HDPVR to be tuner in WMC. There is a separate download which allows the HDPVR to work in WMC.

I am suggesting you try with only 1.5.7.0 drivers installed only and not the WMC support.

Ok, that makes sense. So I found the Hauppauge MCE Service (HcwMceSvc) running on my PC and killed it. And that seems to have done the trick. The constant, pronounced stutter is gone, and now I get a little stutter every 3 to 4 minutes. I may be able to iron that out, later.

Another quick question, since you are being so helpfull. I have my DirecTV H23 connected with a Patterson Technologies cable to COM3 on the computer. I have the HD-PVR video source setup to control channel change with the DirecTV Serial Channel Changer through COM3. However, SageTV is not changing the channel. Does Sage's serial channel changer work through the Patterson Tech. cable? If you cannot answer, I will post another thread.

Thanks for the help.

Sorry I don't use a serial cable for channel changing...
