Change the way Sage TV names recorded files

Is there any way to change the way that recorded files are named? I'd like to have them named slighlty differently so my other programs (namely, XBMC) can scrape them based on the file name.

Thanks,
Brady

No, the only options is to decide whether episode names are included. Other than that, it will be a whitespace/punctuation cleaned show title, a hyphen, and a reference number used by sage to recognize it with its database.

You would think in this day and age that the sagetv programmers will at least fix this. There is really no need to name the files like that.

As far as Sage is probably concerned there is no need to change this. They want you to use a Sage client or extender to play these files.

gplasky probably has it right. Sagetv isnt a very customer friendly outfit and there is no commercial benefit to them to change.

That said, does anyone know of a title scraping program that will read the filenames and convert them to something Sage would recognize (maybe as an imported video where you have more naming latitude) and other media programs like XBMC or Boxee can understand?

Take a look at the BMT plugin. I believe there are some advanced options that may help you rename it to a more friendly SxxExx format. Also check out The Renamer

It's in early development, but check out my SageRemap utility. It has the ability to produce symlinks to the sage recordings, presenting them in a bit easier arrangement for 3rd party apps. i only use it for Orb streaming to my android phone, but it should provide a bit easier browsing by other devices/software as well...

the reasl question I'd ask, though, is WHY watch them in something besides sage?

WAF, and more generally, a unified media experience. I love SageTV as a PVR, but I prefer XBMC for a frontend, and I'd prefer to have one consistent app for everything.

Brady, you appear to be the same guy from the XBMC forums, I'll post that SageTV addon tonight, didn't get around to it yesterday.

I understand the desire for a solidified, common front end.. I just fail to see why NOT to use sage for said Front End.

Just personal preference really, and the fact that we've been using XBMC since 2005, and like the interface and features. Sage has made great strides on this, but I still prefer the XBMC interface. I did explore using Sage for everything a year or two ago, even bought a license for the Mac client, but I could never get solid playback of HDPVR files on my Mac Mini.

The reason not to use Sage for viewing is the lack of Netflix. While I prefer the Sagetv front end, I use Boxee because it has Netflix streaming (on Windows machines) as an integrated part. Boxee also has a lot more of what Sagetv calls online channels and they're better integrated with the front end. The whole online section of Sage (at least in version 6.X with Sagemc) feels like a total bolt-on with poor integration. Too bad Boxee has a lot of useless junk on the home page that you can't get rid of.
