HD-100 lockup with mkv

Hi
I've been a happy user of HD-100s since soon after they have been released.

However I have a periodic lock up when playing x264 .mkv content. Its happened for as long as I can remember but as this is forming more and more of my viewing I thought I'd poll for a solution.

It seems to happen irrespective of resolution (I mostly watch 720p content in this form but I've also seen it happen on a 480p encode from handbrake). I dont remember it ever having happened watching MPEG2 content or xvid .avi.

The video stops hard and the extender will either not respond at all to remote control or responds with a 60-90 second lag. Around half the time I can (slowly) get it back to the main menu and then everything seems fine. The other half of the time it needs a hard power off - power on from the back panel.

I don't recall it happening early in a video. My wife calls it the "one hour problem". Watching 720p25 content yesterday it happened after 56 minutes and again after a further 40 minutes or so. I mention this in case its heat related.

I should add that its happened with two different HD-100s but in the same physical location/network connection.

The server runs on WHS
The HD-100 is hard wired but via a moca bridge (2x NIM 100s) not just cat5.

I've got a spare ion based Nettop that I'm thinking of running sage client on to see if that works as a solution, but if anyone has any ideas on the HD-100 I'm fond of it.

Thanks

Eric

@nox71

Quick answer no.

I've been using sageclient on the ion nettop since this post. But I can't get that to play xvid as smoothly as I'd like (it's fine on mkv or mpeg2 in the native sage player and better at deinterlacing than the HD100). I'm considering trying an HD-300.

Cheers

Eric

What version of Sage are you using? I Haven't had this happen lately, not sure if it's a fix in ver 7 or if something in network has improved.

I'm using 6.6.something on the server. You think I should try 7?

I would look at the features that you get with v7, it's getting ready to go to final version if the beta scares you, but the v7 beta has been my live system for a few months now and everything has been great.

The hd100 that was giving me most of my isssues was swapped with a HD200 (about the same time I upgraded to v7) and I haven't had the same issues with the hd100 in it's new location. I think the hd100's are getting to be underpowered for where Sage has gone in the last few months. It still works, but MyMovies is slow and I get more spinning circles than my 200's.
