HD300 vs. HD100

Not to rehash whats already been done, but...

I have 2 HD 100's and a few MVP's still. Is the 300 worth switching to over the 100? My 100's are slow, not much better than the MVP, except for the A/V connections ofcourse.

So what's the verdict?

Definitely much better than a HD100 from a performance perspective. (I have one)

Replace the HD100s. The upgrade from HD100 to HD300 is like night and day.

I would base it on what you are trying to do. I have an HD100 and an HD300 (that replaced an HD100). The HD100 is just as fast as the HD300 IF (big if):

- You are not doing things graphically intensive (especially plugin's that make extensive use of graphics.)
- You are not playing BluRay.

If I turn off animations, use the default STV and do not use any plugins that use graphics, the speed of the HD100 is only fractionally slower than the HD300. Once you throw graphics into the mix the HD300 blows away the HD100.

If your HD100 is just about as slow as your MVP then something is wrong. First thing to check is your Java heap size for SageTV and how close SageTV is getting to the maximum. Go to System information and scroll down till you see three numbers. If they are all the same you need to enlarge your heap.

Thanks guys, I just ordered one to try out.

My JAVA Heap size is 352MB/389MB/389MB.
I guess I'll try and increase that as well.

I am also using SageMC anf BMT as well so I guess
I'll see a great improvement with the 300 over the 100.

Holy crud. Yes you need to up your java heap. You are maxing out your heap which is crushing your HD100's...

Yep - thats one way of putting it. I just upped it to 1024MB. It mad a world of differance.

Totally agree and I'd add an "if" using v7 - for me it made a dramatic improvement in the HD100's speed.

Thought I'd do a follow up, I TOTALLY agree that the 300 is alot faster then the 100.

I just wish Sage had gone with a larger foot print. The little box dosn't look quite right on a rack shelf by itself.
