HP EX495 & video recording shares

I have sagetv running on a Windows 2003 box. I have a HP EX 495 that I want to use as sagetv video storage, but can't get sagetv to connect to the EX495. I tried adding it to the recording directory list using UNC paths and by IP address but it always tells me the "directory doesn't exist, do I want to create the directory". I say yes and it always fails. On the EX495 I hae the folder set for public access.

Anyone using a EX495 for external video recording storage?

I'm using the EX490 and IIRC the trick is to make sure that SageTV is running as the same user that has access to the EX495. In my case, I run SageTV as a service on Vista as a user that has an account and access on the WHS side of things.

Thanks, that did the trick. Have you had any issues with recording or playing backover the network with the recordings on the HP media server? I am thinking of downsizing my main sagetv server to a small form factor pc with only 1TB HD and using the EX495 as the main recording storage.

Thanks again!

The only thing you cannot do is share the SageTV recording folder with the default Recorded TV folder on the WHS, especially if you have an PCs that make use of WMP libraries (more of problem with W7 I think).

Also, all my systems are connected to a gigabit switch to keep the throughput as high as possible. And it's working great -- best little box I ever bought, that EX490

Why not run Sage on the EX495? Do you currently use internal tuners or do a lot of transcoding? I was thinking of setting up a EX495 to run Sage and use a HDHomerun for for dual tuner recording.

to the OP, I have the ex487 and I have it setup similar to you. All my movies are on the ex487 and run fine with no glitches. Recently I ran out of HD space on the Sagetv server so I put a new directory on the ex487 an then told sage to allocate 200gb to that directory. Working perfectly and now I have a lot more space for recording. I also just added another TB drive to the ex487
I also just installed mymovies on the ex487, also running great with no problems. When I add a new movie to the ex487, the metadata just shows up and sage pics it up. I'm really starting to see the power of this little box

New to Sagetv first post about EX495

I am new to the forum and to Sagetv. I just recently downloaded V7 of SageTV on my EX495 and on my HTPC placeshifter version. I am just coming up to speed and wondered about any glitches you have seen with the server install.

I have in the house 2 tvs running on W7 (x64) pcs and 1 not hooked up yet that I am considering running the Home Theater 300 on. I have 2 networked dual tuner silicondust tuners and want to play my movies and broadcast tv from any tv in the house. Currently my movies are stored on the server and each pc has WMC running the recorded tv that is uploaded to the server.

I got just a little chance the other day to start installing and saw my HTPC in SageTV recognized the tuners, but would not connect to them. I saw where the WHS server was recognized, but that is all the further I got.

Any major pitfalls you see going forward as I will have time to spend in the next 4 days to get this going properly. I am pulling my family away from satellite and back to pradcast and internet tv.

Any specific forums or notes I should read to help?

You need to run the SiliconDust software to configure the tuners for SageTV, not WMC. Also I would remove the tuners from WMC to make sure they don't access the tuners at all. Check the forum for install instruction on the HDHRs.

Thanks for the headsup on configuration of the siliconedust tuners and what to do with the tuners in wmc.

I am working on them tonight and will follow up in the forums as I go.
