SageTV 2 R3 lockups when fastforwarding and rewinding without pausing the show.

SageTV 2 lockup when fastforwarding and rewinding without pausing the show. Pausing the show is the only way i have figured to get Sagetv to run reliable. Does anyones else have this problem??

No this is not a problem known to Sage. However, some video decoders are known do this. What are you using? What have you tried? What Renderer's are you using?

I've seen this problem when using the Nvidia audio decoder. If I change to any other decoders that I have, this problem doesn't occur for me.

I am having the same problem. I can hit FF a couple of times then it locks and won't respond for a few seconds, then it works again. I thought the batteries in my remote were getting weak, but it only happens when using FF. Once I hit pause I can FF to my hearts content. I am using nVDVD, but I've been using it for quite some time without this problem. It only happened the first time after I installed RC3. I am using the Hauppauge silver remote.

Not sure.. I've had the problem since I started using NVDVD with SageTV 2.0.15. I just noticed when it would crash out that something like NVAUDxxx.dll or something was the reason for the crash, so I changed audio decoders (and left NVDVD as the video decoder) and all has been well since.

It definately started after I installed RC3. I haven't made any other changes other than updating to RC3. Has anybody submitted a bug report? I have not had a chance to do it yet.

This has been a bug since RC2 at least. I sent in a bug report that its not fixed in RC3 yet. It occurs on ALL decoders that I have tried.

Unfortunately this needs to be reproducible by the developer to be fixed. Just submit a bug report with as much detailed information about your system as you can. If he can configure his machine to do it he may be able to fix it.

Yeah, after reading all these related posts, I nonetheless upgraded to RC3. I'm now sorry that I did.

For all the UI improvement, core functionality has taken a serious hit:
* Significant delays in video startup (blank screen)
* Significant delays in channel changes (frozen frames)
* Significant delays in fast forward and rewind

No changes to my configuration has been made, and I've tried all video and audio options.

Hopefully, the bug reports will help create a fix, because it's basically unuseable for us experiencing this problem -- can't watch live or recorded shows.

Too bad, because the darn thing looks so good, just works less well. Not the trade-off most of us wanted.

im noticing the same problem, however it seems that no matter what, ff or rw, paused or unpaused... and if i use the slow mo (pause, press pause again advances 1 frame, hold it down its slow mo) then i can still get it to crash.

im am using nvdvd codecs, audio and video, however ive tried with different codecs, same problem.

i did notice this in rc2 also, it only seems to happen to me though, when i hold the button down, or press it multiple times really fast. if i press, then wait about 1 sec then press again, and repeat, its fine.

im using the hauppauge receiver, with silver remote, and installing girder now, to see if i can isolate the problem to hauppauges ir program/sages way of connecting to it.

maybe thats all there is to it, or could be that sage just gets "bogged down with so many commands" and crashes. (thats what it seems like to me)

ok to update..

installed girder, using stranger89's gml, with the hauppauge ir plugin, i cant get sage to crash or even think about crashing using ff/rw keys, holding it down for minutes at a time, back and forth, paused or unpaused..

so this looks to be an issue with either hauppauges ir program, or the way sage hooks into it, and processes its commands (especially when lots of them are sent right after another)

is everyone that is having problems using hauppauges ir program with sage? is everyone using the silver remote? can any of you having problems try girder?

girder 3.2.9b - wait about 15 seconds, download should autostart, page is in russian (i think...)

hauppauge ir plugin - instructions in the zip file, also enable the 'send message' plugin

strager89's gml - thanks stranger89

I'm curious... do you have a problem if you hold down the FF/REW keys on the keyboard? SageTV doesn't 'hook' into the Hauppauge IR program -- as far as I know, that program simply sends keystroke messages to the app with focus. I don't know how Girder sends its commands to SageTV.

i have an recording of punk'd here, and i got sage to crash while i was using girder , switched to hauppauge ir, crashed again, and in the same place, tried keyboard commands, no crash, however i then switched back to girder, and couldnt get it to crash, then to hauppauge ir app, and again no crash. so i dont know whats up. if its intermittent (as it seems) its going to be a bi*ch to track down.

i'll keep playing and see if i cant find some kind of pattern, or reproducable keystrokes/commands.

i had a program i had to delete earlier today (no big deal), because, while trying to crash sage with ffw/rw, i evidently corrupted the video file, sage eventually would crash just upon loading the file, wmp wouldnt play it at all, gave an error about file not supported..
