HD300 and SiliconDust HDHR Issues?
I am having a few issues, with what I think is the HD300, and wanted to know if others are experiencing the same problems.
(1) On several of my recordings I get a fair amount of audio dropouts - but the picture is fine. If I play that same segment back using VLc - I don't hear the audio dropout. (2) On several of my recordings, half the screen will fill up with green blocks every 10 minutes. If I play that same segment back using VLC - I don't see it. I am on the latest beta firmware for the HD300. I have opened a bug - and I will follow up here with the resolution. However, wanted to see if others are experiencing the same issues that I am. |

I use 2 dual hdhomeruns and no issues here. It defiantly sounds like a signal issue with the green blocks. I use hd300 throughout the house but no issues.

was there any update from sage about this?
I checked out one of my "problem recordings" and when played back through windvd (computer i was testing on is not powerful enough to playback hd mpgs with vlc) i notice a slight freeze in the video at the same point as the green pixelation when played back on the hd300. I need to trim the video down to see if i can still reproduce it... then ill file a bug report with sage

Not saying this is your problem, but I have seen that Sage will show artifacts in files that have random signal drops, and VLC will stutter over the same signal dropout.

I suppose it could be signal problems... but nothing as changed with respect to my setup... its been working flawlessly for about 18 months now... My antenna is in the attic so its protected from the weather.... mmmm.... the mystery continues.

I got my first reply from support. The source file has an error in it - as verified with mplayer. However, VLC uses error concealment where it won't display bad frames (makes sense to me) which is why I couldn't see it when I played it back. They may add error concealment to Sage at some point.
I have yet to hear back on my audio "skips". I have noticed that when the skips happen the display on my receiver indicates something is awry. The indicator lights for the various channels go blank and the word "dolby digital" clears off the screen until the sound comes back. |

Yeah.. Error concealment would be good. Quite honestly, the audio dropouts are a much larger problem for me since they happen pretty consistently and really pull me out of whatever program I am watching. I am waiting to hear back from Sage on those and will let you know what I find out.

Are people still having this issue? I'm getting it a lot lately. It shows up mostly on 1080i recordings (i.e. NBC) that have been run through Mediashrink, which appears to exacerbate the problem. I get the blocking in the picture and then the digital audio drops out of sync with my receiver which results in no audio for a second or two.

Necropost time....
I was wondering, did anything ever come of this? Is there some way to process recordings to clean up the audio glitches/dropouts? |

Installed up to the latest beta firmware, but I'm not sure if there's something else to try. It's hdmi straight to the TV. |

Whenever I encounter a problem like this I use the Quick Stream Fix option in my VideoReDo TV Suite V4 w/H.264 to reprocess the stream and fix problems. It resolves problems most of the time. Of coarse if your stream is missing significant amounts of data, it can't replace it, but it will add null data it needs to allow the video to play without freezing up.
