Multiple Instances of R5000 Video Source

Greetings Fellow Sager's!

I have very happily used SageTV for over a year now with my R5000 VIP211 Tuner. Last night I decided to do a rebuild/reimage of my SageTV server with RC1 .17. I wiped the drive and began with a fresh Windows 7 Ultimate install. The R5000 had been working great up through .16 since successfully being installed with the first release of V7. But no joy since the reimage.

The install went great until I configured the R5000. Perhaps I'm getting senile and did something stupid , but after cutting and pasting the property entries for the encoder in the sage.properties file and editing the IP address and "Tuner Name" I went in to SageTV to setup video sources only to discover that when I added the source there were multiple USB ports to select from. Never having seen this I forged ahead by selecting the first one on the list. Proceeding from there I copied the channel lineup from another tuner, and edited for the R5000 (I restrict the R5000 to HD only channels). I also noticed at this time that the status for "Functioning" was set to false. Completing the set up I returned to the list of my video sources only to see there were multiple instances of the tuner in the list (what was shown was a normal presentation of my first three analog tuners, and then 7 instances of the R5000 VIP211). Hmmm, I thought...this looked bad...and unfortunately it did not work when I went to "Watch TV" with the tuner....I got a playback error.

Any thoughts or can I provide additional details?

Thanks!

George

I recently had a similar issue but with my firewire tuner.

check the sage.properties file under the encoders section for your R5000

mmc/encoders/#####/#/#/video_crossbar_type=

not sure what the ### would be since they can change from one install to the next. I suspect you needed to set these up or were copied as part of the R5000 setup.

mine was set to 10 and I was told it should be 1.
I have no idea how mine got changed. i have been using firewire for a few years now and until Sagetv v7.11 (I think) all was well.

Good Luck

That's probably it. To clarify further, for an encoder the following should all match up (use numbers instead of letters of course):

mmc/encoders/XXXXXX/A/B/video_crossbar_index=B
mmc/encoders/XXXXXX/A/B/video_crossbar_type=A

If they don't, then you'll see the above issue you mention when using SageTVClient, or the UI with SageTV running in service mode.

Well, thanks NarFlex and UgaData! No question that's what it was. When I changed it to the syntax below....

mmc/encoders/XXXXXX/A/B/video_crossbar_index=B
mmc/encoders/XXXXXX/A/B/video_crossbar_type=A

I no longer had the multiple inputs....BUT, unfortunately it now thinks the video source is a tuner not an USB input. Please note the instructions below from NextCom Wireless...

"The video crossbar index and type should be set to 0 and 11 respectively. This defines the hardware as having a single USB input."

So they recommend the following settings...

mmc/encoders/12346/1/0/video_crossbar_index=0
mmc/encoders/12346/1/0/video_crossbar_type=11

The above settings have always worked for me, until I did the rebuild and now have multiple instances of the tuner appearing in my video source list...almost as if it is looking at the total available USB addressess and assigning all of them to my VIP211....

Other thoughts?

THANK YOU! I really miss my HD!

I noticed the same thing on my setup last night (as with ugadata mine are firewire devices). I have never had these issues before although i have only recently started using service mode. How do i determine what the values for A and B need to be? and, is there something i need to do to prevent this in future?

Thanks

Update: Well, thankfully my VIP211 is back online . However, I still show 6 instances of it in the video sources list....so it appears there are some housekeeping issues remaining.

Thanks!

Update: OK, so my VIP211 is working great...but every time I go into the Video Sources menu it seems to spawn additional VIP tuners. I now have about 25 tuners listed????

I've been getting the same exact behavior. Started around 7th Beta release for me. I've found the excessive tuners are removed when you restart thew SageTV client. I've been able to live with it by staying out of Video Sources or by shutting the client down as soon as I leave Video Sources. Would be nice to solve it.

Regards,
---Wayne.

If these are your current settings:

mmc/encoders/12346/1/0/video_crossbar_index=0
mmc/encoders/12346/1/0/video_crossbar_type=11

then you should change them to this so that they are correct:

mmc/encoders/12346/1/0/video_crossbar_index=0
mmc/encoders/12346/11/0/video_crossbar_type=11
