AverMedia usb hd dvr model c874
I just purchased this unit it is very similar to Hauppauge's hdpvr. This hd dvr works very well with the included software. But does not work with Sage TV.
When will Sage TV include support for this unit. I have seen a question about the other product Aver Media has out which is a pci-e card that is a software encoder unit. This is a usb hardware encoder and so far is more stable than the Hauppauge hdpvr. |

Sage has made no official comment regarding supporting this unit. I suspect they will eventually, but as they are in the middle of launching two new products (the new HD300 extender, and the totally re-worked SageTV 7), I suspect they haven't had much time to work on supporting new tuners.
My suggestion is to contact Sage directly (you can use the bug submission forms on this forum) and ask them. They might let you know.

True they're busy but now would be a great time to introduce support for a reliable HD-PVR replacement. Unfortunately the new products are still plagued with the problems of the same ol' HD-PVR. When Sage does finally support this hardware I will add a second DirecTV box to my setup.

What makes it more reliable? My hd pvr is pretty rock steady.

I'm not sure how you could compare the stability there. There isn't any real (usable) HTPC software that supports the AverMedia so far. I have one that works well, but difficult to test it in a real life HTPC situation...
