Coax-Ethernet Adapter - IT Experts Solution needed!

So I purchased this http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-MCAB10.../dp/B001N85NMI . I connected my HD100 to it but now I find that I need another connection for my PS3. I don't want to pay another $200 for it though.

Any IT experts out there suggest a solution? To my very basic understanding I can't just add a hub/switch to it?

Thanks for your comments.

I've actually been thinking of adding a switch to mine. What makes you think you can't just attach a switch to it?

If you have a spare switch can you confirm if you can? I'd love to just add a switch to it and save the money.

A switch should work. Some models come with a built in switch. Just bear in mind that additional connections thru that adapter will share the bandwidth.

Well that's good news! I don't mind the sharing of the bandwith since they are both connected to the same tv so I would only use 1 at a time.

Although, with a speed of 270 Mbps that's likely enough for both?

Thank you.

Tried it last night. I connected the ethernet from the MoCA to the switch. As expected it works fine... anything connected to the switch will get an ethernet connection. Keep in mind although they advertise 270, that's not what you get in reality but I would expect it to be capable of serving up HD videos on an extender as well as a 'normal' network connection without much trouble.

Thanks for testing! I now need to look for a cheap switch with maybe 4 ports just in case I need the extra connections.

Are you folks using the Netgear device on the same COAX that brings in your cable TV (simultaneously)? So basically, it acts as a bridge from one area to another, without having to run the ethernet cable?

Yes, that is the basic premise of the device.

I have one in the basement that passes through to my HDHR, as the bridge to coax. On the second floor I have a Linksys WRT350N configured as a wireless AP and I use the switch to support the Blu-ray player, and TV. The MOCA bridge up there passes through the cable signal to my parents DVR, and TV.

The only limitations to these devices I have seen, is you cannot run them on a Satelite service. They are designed for cable systems.

So, it sounds like that would rule out using them on an IPTV installation such as that used by the local power board. Their STB's are similar to/same as uverse and/or fios.

As long as they do not broadcast above the 1Ghz range, one should be ok, but I am not familiar with uverse. Fios though already uses MOCA, and should be compatible, with some caveats.
