Coax Ethernet Network connection for the HD200

I have u-verse - which means that I have the 2-Wire box in the basement feeding the u-verse set top boxes via coax Ethernet. I also have twisted pair running through the house, but it is not where the TVs are. Ideally, I would like to share one of my coax outlets with the u-verse set top box and the sage server, then in the bedroom, I would like to share a coax outlet between the hd200 and the u-verse set-top box.

To pull this off, it seems that I would need
- a coax splitter at each jack
- a coax Ethernet to twisted pair Ethernet bridge at each jack

I'm thinking this is going to be prohibitively expensive - and maybe splitting the coax isn't even a valid network configuration. Does a coax to twisted pair bridge even exist? Back in the 80s we used to have coax Ethernet, but it required terminators in/out connections at each device. My guess this old coax Ethernet is a different beast.

As I'm writing this, I think I'm talking myself into running twisted pair instead of fooling around with this, but would be interested in any feedback.

I gave up coax years ago... TP is much easier to work with, IMO.

NIM 100

I bought 3 NIM 100's off ebay for $60-80, can't remember exactly. They are a Coax to Ethernet bridge and solved my playback issues throughout the house. No more wrestling with wireless stability/interference, just plugged them in on both ends and solid playback.

If you search the forums here, you'll find a few others that used them to solve bandwidth/connectivity issues. I'm running an HD100 off one and a client off the other.

Thank you for the replies

I agree that TP is much nicer than coax.

NIM100 looks like a possiblity. Looks like these are no longer being made. So the laws of supply/demand are kicking in.

Apparently the Motorola uverse boxes that I have incorporate a TP ethernet port on the back that is functional, but not supported. I think I'll try connecting via that first!
